You were not part of what someone would call an upper middle class family.

In fact, you were certainly on the lower end.

Your mom was the only one who worked, going off on long business trips. Often, she'd end up extending her stay just to get away from her husband, thereby spending a few thousand extra. Anything that remained was used up by your father for drugs and alcohol.

As a kid, you got small jobs like distributing newspapers, something which got you enough pocket money to make sure your baby brother didn't malnourish. You'd done such jobs since you were five, knowing the moment your mom announced her pregnancy that the only love it would get would be from you and its friends.
