Wei Ying, Shufu, and I were sitting in Yashi (Elegant Room) waiting for the others to arrive. Xiongzhang would welcome the Jiangs and lead them here to speak about the engagement. I may have seen the two, Jiang Fengmian and Madam Yu, through a memory but they seemed different when met in person. I kept my guard up, especially with Madam Yu around. Jiang Wanyin ang Jiang Yanli said they would be happy to sit in to help convince their parents that it is our choice in the end.

"Wei Wuxian!" A heard a woman yell, "have you caused trouble again?"

Wei Ying tightened his hand around mind as a reflex. He became stiff and nervous as soon as the woman entered.

"My Lady, I told you we had something important to discuss about Wei Ying, not him being in trouble in any way," Jiang Fengmian said in defense.

"How do you know he did not cause any trouble in the meantime?" Madam you squawked.

"Clan Leader Jiang, Madam Yu, we can assure you that Wei Wuxian did nothing to cause trouble," Shufu defended, "he actually did the opposite. He has been very attentive and smart. He has talent and he allow him to be creative with his craft for spells and talismans. He has been raised well, so I assure you, he is not in trouble."

"Are we talking about the same person?" Madam Yu asked, "attentive, and not causing trouble? I find that hard to believe."

"Mother, A'Xian is helping me improve my cultivation, he even made me a fan as a weapon. It is perfect for me instead of a sword," Yanli said to her.

"A fan?" Madam Yu questioned as she saw the weapon in her daughter's hand, "you crafted it? And it can help her?"

"It can," Wei Ying said, "Shijie has always had a problem holding and using a sword. She wants to cultivate so I just made her a weapon that is much more suitable for her. I am teaching her to use it and Lan Zhan is helping her with methods to improve cultivation."

"Thank you both for helping her," Jiang Fengmian said, "So let us talk about why we came. I did not entirely tell my lady everything other than we have something of importance to discuss about Wei Ying."

"Of course," Shufu said, "we are here to discuss the engagement between Wei Wuxian and my nephew, Lan Wangji."

"Engagement?" Madam Yu questioned and looked at me, "you are willing to marry this man? A servant's son?"

I tried to remain calm when I answered her, "Madam Yu, Wei Ying had roomed with me since his arrival to Cloud Recesses. He is a kind man and is very loving. I love him dearly no matter the background. But I just want to say this, Wei Ying's father was the head disciple and subordinate to your clan. A subordinate is a helping hand not a servant. He is also related to the immortal cultivator, Baoshan Sanren, as his mother is her daughter. So I believe that Wei Ying has a much better background then what you seem to think. Being a grandson of an immortal is a very proud advantage."

Shufu and my brother were happy yet surprised by telling this woman her place and my thoughts about Wei Ying, "I also have to say, being married to me, no one would dare harass or criticize him in front of me. I assure you that."

Madam Yu was speechless and could only huff in her place, "An alliance between Gusu and Yunmeng would also be something to really think about, my lady," Fengmian told her, "Wei Ying can learn a lot from here and if this is what he wants, we should accept that."

"Thank You, Uncle Jiang," Wei Ying said.

"Of course, A'Ying," Fengmian said, "you are family just as your siblings are. My Lady may think differently, but I mean what I say."

"Fine, allow him to marry into Gusu," Madam Yu stated, "if he caused trouble here, I warned you once already."

"A'Xian has not caused trouble and he will be welcomed as family," Xiongzhang said, "we can discuss more things as well. The two are still young so we would have to wait until they are of age to hold the ceremony, which is at least two years from now."

"We understand," Fengmian said, "Is A'Ying staying after lectures are through?"

"If it is alright?" Wei Ying asked, "I promise to visit as much as I can. Plus our ChengCheng can have his dogs back."

"Who is your ChengCheng?" Jiang Wanyin spat.

"Like mother like son," Wei Ying mumbled.

"Excuse me?" Madam Yu questioned.

"I am just saying he is just like you in many ways, nothing is wrong with that," Wei Ying answered, "you are smart and determined just like Jiang Cheng. You both also have a bit of a temper."

"You little brat!" Madam Yu said.

A sizzling sound could suddenly be heard. It was her famous Zidian, sparking up due to anger.

"My Lady, settle down," Jiang Fengmian told her, "it was a compliment, you should be happy about that."

"Compliment? Temper?" Madam Yu said standing from her seat, "yes I have a temper, but I seem to be the only one with a brain around here. This man is useless! They want him apart of their clan? It makes me laugh at how funny that sounds!"

"Madam Yu!" I yelled gaining her attention, "if I challenge you to a duel at the training grounds, would you accept."

"Why would I?"

"If I win, you have to stop your nonsense and stop harassing Wei Ying with your hateful words. If you win, we call of the engagement," I bargained, "normally something like this is forbidden in Cloud Recesses but I am willing to break it for Wei Ying to defend him. So are you afraid you will lose to a junior cultivator?!"

"Okay, then let's fight," She agreed.

We all went to the training grounds. I had to win this for Wei Ying. He does not deserve such treatment. Knowing her, she will use both her sword and Zidian.

"I will allow both sword and Zidian," I told her, "but I am allowed my sword and zither."

"Fine by me," Madam Yu said with a smirk on her face.

"We will go until one is unable to continue, no killing!" Xiongzhang said, "may you have a good fight."

My brother and uncle were determined and confident in my skills. The Jiangs seemed to be uneasy about the situation, and Wei Ying, he was nervous beyond control. My brother and Yanli stood beside him to try and keep him calm. It was all they could do for the moment. As for me, I was fine. I stood ten paces from Madam Yu waiting for the first move.

"Ladies first," I said calmly.

"Hmph," she huffed as she took out her sword, "what a gentleman!"

I smirked and waited for her to strike. I was not going to show off just yet, but I am determined to catch this woman off guard when she least expects it.
