Scarlett's Mistake

Chapter 3

Three days had passed and Kaiden has recovered this morning. As the doctor said, he has weak immune system, which is the reason why he regained his energy a little slower than the supposed time.

Avery never left his side, the doctor took care of him throughout the past days and never let him leave the hospital room.

Yesterday, the doctor told him to not work today and just rest but the introvert guy is kinda stubborn and now, he is standing in front of his boss' office, his head hanging low and hesitating whether to knock on the door or not.

The old lady owner of the coffee shop where he's working at is kinda grumpy, and once told him that if he disappear for days again without getting a permission from her, he's free to leave and never come back again, that's why Kaiden is so nervous right now.

Beads of sweats adorning his forehead. Fidgeting, he thought about how will he get a job again? This coffee shop is the only one who accepted him even though he's a shrinking violet.

His first day in the said shop was awful because a b*tch customer poured a hot coffee on him for having low voice and she couldn't understand clearly what's he's saying. Because of annoyance she did that.

But days after days, he became used to the customers who are going in the shop daily. His shyness lessened a little bit and his voice became louder and louder as he got comfortable with them. That's one of introvert people's nature.

What will I do now? How can I find job again? How will I survive?

A small pout made its way to his lips as he fidgeted more, still thinking how will he explain that he got sick to his grumpy boss who don't want to listen to anyone's explanation and how will he survive everyday without a job.

He slowly raised a hand. He hesitated for a moment but he still knocked on the wooden door and bit his lower lip while waiting for the old lady's response.

There was a second of silence before the door opened and revealed his smiling boss.

Kaiden bowed his head again, waiting for her to shout at him and kick him out of the shop but the boy was flabbergasted when the old woman who has thick makeup on her face grabbed his arm and pulled him inside her office.

"Sit down, Kaiden. We have to talk about something!"

The confused boy slowly sat on one of the chairs in front of the mahogany table of the woman.

"W-What will we talk about, Miss Dorothea?"

Dorothea Guevara, a 58 years old pure filipina who never had a husband. She preferred to grow old alone for her first love who promised to marry her died at a young age, the old woman never entertained someone since then. So up until now, she still have no husband and just drowning herself in works and her coffee shop.

She clapped her hands happily and beamed at the baffled innocent boy who is staring at her with his half puzzled and half happy look.

He thought he will have another chance since the old woman didn't shout at him and kick him out. Hope arose throughout his system.

Little did Kaiden know, the old woman didn't expel him because she has hidden agenda that will surely bring the oblivious boy to danger.

Three days ago, an explosion happened in one of the houses within the Montanari residence, and it slayed three people; a member of the organization, his wife and their three years old daughter.

The Mafia queen was fuming with anger after she witnessed the sudden blast. Veins almost popping and her face was reddening that time.

Scarlett was still intoxicated when that happened, it's also the reason why she almost killed the security guard of the residence after she found out that someone broke in without being noticed.
