Chapter 15: The guru

Third person POV:

Aang and Saori dropped Sokka of at the Chameleon Bay as they continued to the Eastern Air Temple.

"How do you feel Aang?" Saori sat up as the temple came into view.

"Excited but slightly scared."

"It's expected."

Appa landed as Aang called out to the meditating man. "Um... Hello?"

"You're guru Pathik right?" Saori walked to the man. "The person who attached the note to Appa's horn?"

"Indeed, I was a spiritual brother of your people." He told Aang. "And a personal friend of monk Gyatso."

"In your note, you said you could teach me to gain control of the Avatar state." Aang sat down. "How?"

"You must gain balance within yourself before you can bring balance to the world. And the first step to gaining balance begins with this." He pulled out two bowls full of liquid and handed them to the benders. "Drink up!"

Saori took a small sip before spitting out the whole thing. "What is that?

"It tastes like onion and banana juice." Aang spat the mixture himself.

"That's because it is!" Pathik drank the whole thing. "Yum, yum."

"I think I'd rather starve." Saori placed to bowl aside.

Time skip

"In order to gain complete control over your powers and the Avatar state, you must open all the chakras. Aang, tell me everything you know about chakras."

"What are chakras?" Aang rubbed his eye.

"Oh. How about you Saori?"

"I- uhh, chakras are basically... Pools of energy or chi in our body?" Saori answered unsure.

"Yes, the water flows through this creek, much like the energy flows through your body, as you two see, there are several pools where the water swirls around before flowing on. These pools are like our chakras."

"So, chakras are pools of spiralling energy in our body?" Aang questioned.

"Exactly, if nothing else were around, this creek would flow pure and clear however, life is messy and things tend to fall in the creek and then what happens?"

"The creek can't flow?"

"Yes, but if we open the paths between the pools..."

"The energy flows." Saori completed.

Time skip

"There are seven chakras that go up the body, each pool of energy has a purpose and can be blocked by a specific kind of emotional muck." The guru explained to the two. "Be warned, opening the chakras is an intense experience and once you begin this process, you cannot stop until all seven are open. Are you two ready?"

Saori nodded as Aang agreed.

"First, we will open the Earth chakra, located at the base of the spine, it deals with survival and is blocked by fear. What are you most afraid off?"

Images of Mai's head and Sayori flashed into her mind as screams echoed in her head, pleas of mercy.

"Let your fears become clear to you."

The morbid scene turned into Wan Shi Tong with a disappointed look. "You failed Saori, you're weak and pathetic. You cannot protect anyone."

The owl morphed into two glowing spirits as they laughed with Aang, Katara, Toph, Sokka and suprisingly Zuko all bloody and beaten.
