Sirens chorused with the frantic screams of the panicked crowd, creating a chaotic din that seemed to echo all over the place. Toppled cars, along with other debris, lay scattered all over the road. People were also running away from the center of the commotion, eager to get to safety as soon as possible.
Unfortunately, some people were injured and unable to get away from the place. One of the injured people was a young lady in an emerald-green uniform. A huge piece of upturned concrete fell on her as she was running away, pinning her on the road.
Police tried to control the crowd, but their efforts to control the sea of people were futile. As they tried to hold back the people, another young man in an emerald-green uniform dashed towards the center of the chaos, seemingly unaware of the danger in the area.
“Get back here, kid!” several police officers shouted at the young man. Some of them tried to intercept him, but he was able to swerve around the officers.
“What the hell are you doing, Rigel?!” the lady snapped at the young man. “Run away! It’s dangerous here! Are you an idiot?!”
Rigel looked just as scared as his classmate. Still, despite his trembling body, he tried to lift the huge slab of concrete off the girl’s body. “I can’t possibly leave you alone, Camie! Besides, idiots like me are the only ones insane enough to do something like this,” he said, his eyes glistening with tears.
After one mighty heave, Rigel was finally able to lift the concrete off of Camie’s body, revealing her bleeding legs. The former immediately carried the latter in his arms, but a powerful shock wave suddenly erupted somewhere ahead of the two and blasted the people away from the area. Rigel was thankfully able to hold on to a piece of fallen lamppost to stop himself and Camie from being blown away.
A car suddenly fell right at the very spot where Camie was lying just mere moments ago.
“Well, I’d rather have my leg broken than my entire body crushed,” Camie said, staring at the car in muted shock.
“What do we have here?” a voice suddenly said. “Look, Emerald students. What are you brats doing in a place like this?”
Rigel could only stare in shock at the three villains standing just a short distance away from them. The person who just spoke had a rather large mouth. Even his yellowish teeth were protruding beyond his thick lips.
“These brats are going to be agents soon,” one of the villains said, a lady with extremely long nails. “Let’s kill them right now so that they won’t be a pain in the ass for our fellow villains in the future.”
Rigel knew he had nowhere else to run, but his legs seemed to act on their own as he hurriedly turned around to dive behind a wall. Razor-sharp fingernails, extending from the lady’s hands, lashed right at the spot where he stood earlier.
“I’m sorry, Camie!” Rigel said as his friend winced in pain.
Before his friend could even reply, the wall where they’re hiding seemed to explode, sending them flying away from their hiding place. Rigel just held Camie firmly in his arms, cushioning their fall as he rolled on the hard concrete. Despite the pain in his body and his spinning vision, Rigel looked back and saw that the third villain had transformed into a stone golem of sorts, his entire body covered with rock spikes. The villain must’ve punched the wall where the two of them were hiding.
“Now that the rats are out,” the lady with extendable fingernails said, “let’s kill them. . .”
Unable to move his body, Rigel just closed his eyes and shielded Camie from the rushing fingernails. However, the wait seemed to last for an eternity. Pain and death didn’t come. Instead, a deafening crack of lightning tore the silence around Rigel and Camie, making them flinch in shock. When the former finally opened his eyes, he immediately saw a force field right in front of him which blocked the fingernail attack earlier.
