He's On to Us

School was becoming more and more like hell. There was simply no way of sugarcoating it because it absolutely sucked.

Draco made an attempt to assassinate Dumbledore, as it was something we were tasked with, but it failed miserably.

He attempted to use an enchanted necklace by getting Katie Bell, a student here, to deliver it to Dumbledore, but she was stupid and touched the necklace herself.

Now, she's in the Hospital Wing. However, the attack raised suspicions that something is going on at Hogwarts, so our job just got way harder.

One night, it was the one of Slughorn's party,
Draco and I were leaving the Room of Requirement after another unsuccessful night of fixing the Cabinet. He had finally given in to letting me help, but the stupid Cabinet was definitely proving to be a challenge. Anyways, we were walking through the vacant hallways, since it was late, when Filch jumped out at us and grabbed each of us by the shoulder.

"What the hell!?" Draco cried.

"What are you two doing up here? You know the upper corridors are off limits to students, especially during this time," he said.

"We were invited to the party... we just wanted some alone time," said Draco coolly.

I felt my cheeks turn red, but I nodded. "Yeah, can you let us go this one time? It won't happen ever again."

However, he ignored our requests and continued to drag us to the corridor where the party was being held. Despite how hard we tried to squirm away, Filch would not let go, and he shoved us right into the room where the party was going on.

The music stopped instantly and everyone looked at us as Draco adjusted his suit and I gave Filch a dirty look.

"You'll regret this," I seethed.

"What brings you all here?" Slughorn asked.

I turned to face the party goers. Of course, Harry and Hermione were amongst the group.

"They claim to be invited to your party," said Filch.

Draco rolled his eyes and cut in. "Okay, okay. I was just making up an excuse. We were just trying to have some alone time. We'll leave."

My cheeks heated up again as I went to leave, but Snape stepped in front of me.

"I will escort them," he said sternly while eyeing me coldly.

Draco ripped his shoulder out of the grasp of Flich, and we hurried after Snape, who always walks in a rush.

"You two need to be more careful," he scolded as we walked through the empty corridors.

"Yeah, yeah. Whatever."

Snape stopped suddenly, and both Draco and I almost ran right into him. He whirled around and glared at us. "You'll be killed if you keep doing dumb things like this," he spat.

"We know what we're doing," Draco replied.

"Sure looks like."

"Whatever," Draco seethed as he grabbed my arm and pulled me around Snape.

Snape did not protest, and he let Draco and I carry on our way to the Slytherin house

Since Christmas was approaching, we were set to return home for the holidays.

It has only been three days since Slughorn's party. We had been working on the Cabinet for all those days, but as of now, we were loading the Hogwarts Express. Pansy, Draco, Blaise, and I found an empty compartment in the back of the train.

"Are you two okay?" asked Pansy as the train began to pull away from the station moments later.

Draco and I shared glances. We were both so drained from work.

"Just tired," I said.

"Has Draco been keeping you up?" Blaise asked amusedly.

Usually, I would have likely found that funny. As of now, not so much. I barely even managed to fake laugh.

From then on, the train ride was silent. We all resorted to reading or working on school work.

I can't believe this is how my life is now. Last year, we would party at least twice a week. Now, I barely even have the motivation to leave my dorm, unless it's to work on the Cabinet.

I also can't believe my fate depends on a stupid cabinet.

After a few hours, I shut my book and got up to use the toilet.

I wandered through the compartments but came to a stop when I heard my name sift from one of them. I froze in my tracks because of course, it was the cabin that my brother and Ron and Hermione sat in. The door was slightly ajar, so all they were saying could be heard.

"I don't like what she's gotten herself into," said Harry.

"What do you mean?" asked Hermione. "She seems to be happy with... Malfoy."

"It's not necessarily that. That night of the dinner, I just can't stop thinking about what Snape was saying."

"Harry, I wouldn't look that far into it," Ron said.

"Yeah, you have it all wrong. As weird as she's been acting, Y/n would never join the Dark Side. They would kill her anyway, before she would even get the chance," Hermione added.

I was thankful for Ron and Hermione as they were steering Harry away from the truth.

"I guess so," I heard Harry grumble. "I need to use the toilet. I'll be back."

The second I heard that last sentence, I scrambled into a cabin, which was a few away from the one the Trio was in.

A confused group of first and second year Ravenclaws peered at me.

"What're you looking at?" I jeered.

They all went back to their conversation, so I checked the aisle. Harry had gone by, so I was free to escape. I hurried right back to my original cabin.

"Took you long enough," said Draco when I entered.

I rolled my eyes. "Yeah, yeah. Can I talk to you for a moment... alone?"

Both Pansy and Blaise ooed as Draco followed me out the cabin and to one that was nearby and empty.

"So, Harry definitely suspects something is going on," I said after we closed the door.

He sighed loudly and rubbed his face. "He's so fucking annoying."

I nodded. "I just thought you should know."

"He's just asking for a shorter lifespan," Draco commented as he reopened the door. "Come along, darling. We're bound to reach Kings Cross soon."

I took a deep breath, and then followed him out the door. What we were doing was suddenly beginning to not sit right with me.
