A Completed Task
_________________________________Draco was in the Room of Requirement. He took a deep breath as he prepared for what he was about to do. Slowly, Draco opened the Cabinet and moments later, it emitted smoke.
A shaky sigh left his body as he turned on his heel and began his trek to the Astronomy Tower. The tower was a place he had loved for so long at Hogwarts, but he got the feeling that it would be a place he would dread by the end of the night.
The castle was mostly vacant. Everyone was studying and such, so he had no problem being stopped by anyone on his way.
It was just him and his thoughts... visions of what he was about to do danced throughout his mind, but he needed to do this. He needs to prove himself and keep everyone he loves alive. Especially Y/n. After everything they have been through, this would ultimately determine if they could even live to be together.
As Draco reached the foot of the tower, he took deep breaths. Everything was about to change.
He then began the long climb, stepping up each stair slowly, taking deep breaths at every single one because one step up was one step closer to what he had to do.
Right before stepping into the opening of the top of the tower, he took several deep breaths, and then he stepped onto the tower. The soft moonlight casted a small bit of lighting as he took in the sight before him.
Y/n stood in the center with her wand pointed at Dumbledore.
But why? This was his task. Not hers. He didn't want her to have to take his life and carry what she is about to do with her for the rest of her life. Not when she has so much potential to be great...
"Miss Potter, you don't need to do this to be noticed," said Dumbledore as she kept her wand held up.
She had yet to notice Draco since he stood behind her.
"Yes, I do!" she spat.
"You're amazing for your young age, Y/n. You have so much potential to do great things..."
Draco felt his heart break for his poor girl. Dumbledore was right... she shouldn't feel the need to prove herself by doing this.
Y/n laughed sarcastically and pulled up the sleeve on her dress, revealing her dark mark. "Yeah, so much potential," she said harshly.
Dumbledore did not look mad. Just sympathetic for the poor, forgotten, Potter Twin.
"I mean it, Y/n," he said whilst raising his wand, only for him to be interrupted by Y/n disarming him.
"Just be quiet, please," she said, her voice beginning to break.
That was when Draco walked up behind her and placed a comforting hand on her back. She had tears in her eyes as she glanced back at Draco. Her bottom lip quivered as he gently grabbed her wrist and lowered her arm.
"Don't. You can't," he whispered. "Let me... you actually have a life to live for."
She gazed up at him, her eyes blank yet so full of emotion at the same time.
In that moment, it seemed as though Draco had convinced her to step down, and to let him fulfill the task. However, her arm quickly shot up again, but in a different direction at the sound of her brother's voice.
"You're such a disappointment. Do you have any idea how pissed our parents and Sirius would be?" he asked as he emerged at the top of the tower.
"Please, just leave, Harry. I need to do this," she whispered.
He shook his head at her and raised his wand. Draco disarmed him though. He did not want Harry hurting her in any way, or coming in the way of what needs to be done.
"Harry, you need to leave. I'll be okay," said Dumbledore.
"Yeah, please just go... everyone else will be here soon, a-and I can't lose you too. Please just go," she begged.
At this point, her plan was to get Harry out of there before the rest of the Death Eaters arrived. This is because she was fed up with the stress from the Dark Side and what they do to the people she loves. The longer Harry stays alive, the better chance his side has of winning the war.
"You already did. You're crazy," he jeered as he began to back up.
"Please just go. You'll be safer that way," she murmured.
"Let him go, too," said Harry.
Dumbledore only shook his head. "Harry, this is something you won't understand for a long time, but you need to go," was all Dumbledore said.
Y/n turned to look back at her brother and his expression seemed to soften as he saw the look of pure fear and regret on her face. He knew she was being controlled and that this was the only way out... and that in a way, she was looking out for him.
"K-keep her safe, Malfoy," he mumbled as he slowly backed away.
Draco tossed Harry his wand, and with one final look, Harry ran off down the stairs, which left
Y/n and Draco to finish what they started."May you escape the control you have put yourself in," said Dumbledore.
"I'm so sorry," she murmured.
"Y/n, stop," Draco muttered just as the other Death Eaters arrived.
Bellatrix smirked at the scene before them. "Very good!" she exclaimed. "Now go on! One of you!"
Y/n went to step forward but Draco stepped in front of her.
"Just let me," he whispered. "Go back to your dorm."
She finally seemed to give up on the idea of doing it herself as she said, "No, if you do it, I'm staying by your side."
"Oh, stop being all lovey-dovey and do it! Go on!" Bellatrix yelled.
However, it all went so fast. Snape emerged from the doorway of the tower, wand raised. Before anyone could even process what was happening, he casted the killing curse and Dumbledore fell from the tower.
Both Y/n and Draco rushed to the edge alongside everyone else, their stomachs filled with remorse as they watched him fall.
Bellatrix and the other Death Eaters, they were cheering and clapping.
All Y/n did was shake her head. She had no clue why she thought she could take this task on herself, yet she was thankful she did not need to carry it all the way through... although, both her and Draco felt terrible. Someone died, and they were a part of the mission to take this person's life.
