The giant blast doors groaned to life as the split apart, opening up into the pitch black darkness of the deep. The piercing light of the small submarine was the only light source for the two men operating the vehicle. The flashes of lighting above the surface did little to help.
The pilot looked to his left, seeing his operator looking nervous, small beads of sweat were falling down the side of his head as he craned his head to looking to the darkness of the water.
"Relax," the pilot said. "Anything in here would be dead by now".
The sub continued through the water, its light sweeping back and forth. It wasn't too long before they found what they were looking for.
The light hit some spikes that were sticking out of the sand like a massive cage, the light tilted further upward, resting on a huge, bone white skull of a creature with jagged sharp teeth and spines all over its head. "There she is. The Indominus-rex".
The operator guided the sub's saw arm towards one of the skeletons ribs, meanwhile, the subs other claw arm, gripped the rib tightly. The saw cut through the bone in just a few seconds. Then the claw arm detached from the sub as a buoyant balloon inflated from the top of the arm. The bone of the Indominus-rex flew towards the surface, right past a huge, looming shadow, that had been conserving its energy for a long time.
Back on solid ground, Tyler squinted through the cold, hard rain to get a glimpse of the rolling waves of the Mosasaurus enclosure. Jurassic World had gone to ruins, and it had only been six months. He had to give it to those two guys, they had guts. He would never be able to willingly go into that place in a tiny sub, even though the animal that had occupied it was dead.
Tyler looked behind him, seeing a helicopter that was starting up its propellers. "They got it!" Tyler called to them, waving his arm. "Go, go, go!" The helicopter rose into the sky as it sailed over the water, shining a spotlight into the water to spot the brightly coloured balloon, marking the specimen's location.
Tyler turned back to a tablet in his hand and awaited the transmission. He brushed his rain soaked hair out of his eyes as he stared at the screen. The sound of rustling bushes made his head snap to the left in fright. He shivered, not wanting to be here any longer than he needs to be.
Suddenly, his radio crackled to life. "Come in, Tyler. The package is secure. Call them out".
Tyler breathed a sigh of relief and switched channels. "Marine one, I got to close the gate, get out of there".
"Roger that. We're heading out," they replied.
Only a few seconds later, the comms turned to static, signalling he had lost their connection. Tyler fumbled with his radio as panic crept into his throat, "Marine one, are you there? I got to close the gate. Seriously, guys, I'm kind of exposed out here! Marine one! Confirm you're out! Marine one, do you copy!"
Tyler shot to his feet as he turned back to the helicopter, which had landed again just a few seconds ago. "I can't reach them!" He shouted as lightning flashed above him. He was confused to see the people inside the helicopter waving their hands out at him. "What? What's going on, I can't here you!"
The realisation dawned on him as he felt the ground vibrate under his feet. He turned slowly and screamed at the sight of the T-rex roaring just inches from him.
The young man threw the tablet away as he sprinted for the helicopter. The T-rex's massive foot crunched the tablet to pieces as it chased after him. The helicopter took off into the sky, but a ladder dropped down for Tyler to jump onto. All he had to do was make it.
The ladder hit the edge of the path and began to spill over the water of the Mosasaurus enclosure. Tyler leapt over the barricade and his hands closed around one of the rungs of the ladder.
