Four Years Ago
Max felt someone nudging his arm, trying to wake him up. "Max, time to get up," a voice said. Max rolled over, in an effort to get away from the nudging and go back to sleep. He groaned n protest, not having the energy to argue with words.
"Seriously, dude, you know you have to go too. You're not just going to leave me to deal with this alone, are you?"
Max finally summoned the strength to open his eyes and stare up into the face of Yasmina. She was already fully dressed and wide awake. "Get dressed and meet me outside". She left the room and closed the door behind her.
Max kicked the blankets off him and climbed out of his bed, well, the guest bed. Quickly rushing to a cabinet of draws, Max changed out of his pyjamas and got into proper clothes. Once that was done, he turned and saw backpack by the door. Remembering what day it was, Max quickly scooped up the bag and left his room, well, the guest room.
Max sped walked through the hallways of the Fadoula household to the front door, opening it up and stepping down the stairs onto the front yard. Yasmina waited for him by the road with a smirk on her face.
Max walked u to her and the two shared a warm smile with one another. "You've really got to start waking up on time, oversleeping is bad for you," Yasmina laughed.
Max merely huffed and feigned annoyance, though the smile never left his face. "So, it's really time?" He asked.
Yasmina looked down, her smile fading for just a moment. "Yeah," she said.
"Don't force yourself into this," Max said gently, putting his hand on her arm. "It's only been a few months since we got back, they'd understand if you need more time".
She shook her head. "No, I need to put myself in a regular situation to get that normalcy feeling back, besides, the staff are expecting you today," she gestured to him.
"Who cares? I'm only going if you are," Max said.
"Well, I am," Yasmina said, crossing her arms as her competitive smile crossed her face.
"Then I guess I am too," Max replied with an equally competitive smile.
For next few minutes, Yasmina lead him through the countless streets, the two of them going through conversation after conversation, talking about whatever stupid thing their minds came up with at that moment.
Until, she finally stopped in front of a bus stop, where several other people had gathered around. Yasmina and Max simply joined the crowd and waited for their transport to arrive.
Once it did, Max and Yasmina boarded it quickly and sat down next to each other. Max instinctively reached for the seatbelt, but was shocked to find there weren't any. He felt a brief panic in him as he felt the bus begin to move, but Yasmina's hand quickly met his and he calmed down, realising this was the norm on buses.
After about half an hour of riding on the bus, the two of them disembarked and continued on together. They were now in an area with much higher buildings, skyscrapers loomed above them and the noise of cars and people had increased ten fold.
Yasmina lead him up an escalator and onto a flat concrete platform. "Now, we wait here for the train," Yasmina said, looking down the tracks and seeing it coming towards them. "Oh, here it is now".
