Morning had come, and the jungle was silent for the most part. The whole forest biome had a peaceful feel to it, despite the number of dinosaurs that were roaming around in here. Sunlight shone through the gaps in canopy, spreading visible rays down on the ground.
Even despite the possible danger, that didn't stop them from running.
Yasmina leapt over a log, landing perfectly and running onward without a second delay. She checked over her shoulder, seeing no sign of her running partner. She didn't worry though, she knew he could handle himself. What mattered right now was the race.
Now that she was ahead, that gave her some thinking time as she kept her eyes ahead of her, having memorised the way to the finish line. She thought about something in particular, but thanks to the running at the same time, her head didn't get clouded with insecurities and thoughts this time. She saw it plain and simple and knew exactly what she wanted. She smiled as she rounded the last tree and made the final push.
By the watering hole, Ben was trying to feed Angel and Rebel some berries, but they seemed too sleepy to care, yawning at him and ignoring the food. "Huh, really spoiled you with all those berries, didn't I?" He said as Angel gave a roar, looking around the empty area. "Don't worry, they'll be back soon...or not," he added as he giggled deviously.
He turned around when he heard panting. He yelped in shock as Yasmina leapt over him gracefully and landed at the edge of the watering hole and coming to a stop. Ben was confused when she suddenly broke out laughing. "You okay, Fadoula?" He asked, watching her. She just laughed harder. "Seriously, you okay?"
"I forgot how good it feels to run," she said as he turned back to him, smiling at him and sweat covered her forehead. "Like, really run. For fun and not because something is chasing us". She lay down next to Angel and and put her hands behind her head.
Ben lay down on the other side of Angel. "Can't say I can relate, but I'm glad you had a good time," he said.
Yasmina chuckled. "Better than good, it gave me the space to think," she sat up, her heart rate had picked up again despite now being relaxed. "I'm going to do it, Ben. I'm going to tell Max how I feel".
Ben sat up at the speed of light and screamed at the top of his lungs. "Yes! Yes! Yes! Oh, I am so happy for you. How? When?"
"No idea," she replied, her smile not leaving her face, displaying nothing but confidence. "I'll do it when the time is right, you know?"
At that moment, the bushes parted and someone else came through. Ben and Yasmina turned their heads, seeing me bent over and panting. He turned to Yasmina, who was staring at me with a smile. "Well, how about now?" He asked. Yasmina looked at him then back at the me, suddenly back to being nervous. He made a gesture towards me, then got up and left the group, giving a subtle thumbs up as he left.
Yasmina turned back to me and took a deep breath. "Well, look who finally caught up," she smirked.
I collapsed onto my hands and knees, struggling to get air in. "Give me a break," I chuckled. "Wow, here I was, thinking I was on par with your level now, but I was so wrong. How can you run so fast for so long? You're so good!" I finally got proper breath into my lungs and got to my feet.
"Did you ever doubt?" Yasmina asked, still smirking.
"Well, that just means I got to try harder next time. I don't always want to be left in the dust whenever we go running". I stretched and walked past them towards the water, I walked all the way in and dunked my head under the water, drinking up a large mouthful of it before walking back out.
She laughed for a moment as I sat down next to her and lay down. She scratched her cheek and inched closer to me, leaning over me as I lay there. My eyes widened ever so slightly as I realised how close she was, and here I was, practically under her at the moment. It turned my stomach inside out to be like this at the moment. "Hey, Max...". She was suddenly interrupted by some loud voices.
