Stevie didn't want to dwell on the shaky start earlier. Dean wasn't always an asshole, he had some good qualities, just that they were unfortunately drifting apart lately. This trip was a chance for them to try and fix their relationship and Stevie was determined to give it her best shot. So, she put any ill feelings behind in order to start over.
It was getting late and they were supposed to have dinner together, Dean had promised. They hadn't decided on the exact time, but Stevie kept checking and her annoyance was growing fast. Since he barely ever listened and if she said anything, they were likely going to have another argument, so she thought, she could show it instead.
After a shower, Stevie walked over to one of her suitcases, lifted it onto the bed and unzipped it. She looked through it until she found her cosmetics bag and returned to the bathroom. Half an hour later, she had her makeup reapplied. She unwrapped her hair from the towel and reached for the blow dryer. As soon as she turned it on, Dean asked her if she could keep it down. Taking a deep breath, Stevie closed the bathroom door.
"How much longer are you going to take?" Stevie asked as she reemerged again.
"However long it takes." Dean shrugged, tapping away on his laptop.
Her plan was clearly not going so well. Stevie opened another suitcase and started choosing her outfit. She picked out a dress and another pair of heels, different from the ones she had worn earlier. She stood in front of Dean and dropped her robe on the floor, revealing that she was completely naked, but it didn't get a reaction from him. Minutes later, fully ready, Stevie stared at Dean, arms crossed over her chest, eyes narrowed.
Dean tore his eyes away from his laptop to look at her, he actually managed to squeeze out a smile. "You look nice."
"Yeah, well, you don't." Stevie shrugged. "Dean, you-"
"I'm working, okay?" He interrupted her, showing her the screen. "I'm sorry."
"You weren't supposed to!" She yelled out. "You fucking swore to me. What was the point of coming here if you knew, you weren't going to keep your promise?"
"What's the big deal?" Dean sighed as he continued writing his email. "We can go to dinner tomorrow night. I'm tired anyway."
Stevie scoffed, rolling her eyes. "Yeah, as if tomorrow night's going to be any different." He didn't reply. "You said, I look nice, well, I did this for you!" She pointed at him. "I could have put on a pair of jeans and a T-shirt, but I know, you don't appreciate, when I don't make an effort. If you already knew that we weren't going to leave this freaking room, you could have told me!"
"Would you keep your voice down, please?" Dean asked. "This is a nice hotel."
Everything that came out of his mouth was only irritating her more. Sure, she had a lot more to say to him, but if he didn't want to enjoy the expensive vacation he had paid for, she was going to. Marching over to where she had left her phone, she grabbed it and her purse. She put a couple more items in and turned towards the door.
"Where the hell are you going?" Dean frowned, when he saw her reaching for the door handle.
"Out." Stevie shrugged and slammed the door from the other side.
Stevie didn't walk away immediately. She waited just outside their room in case Dean was going to come out and stop her, but he didn't. Taking a deep breath, Stevie held her head up high and went to the elevator as if nothing had happened.
Dinner was no longer on Stevie's mind, she had lost her appetite for food, but not for a glass of wine. The downstairs bar wasn't too crowded and she sighed in relief. She didn't want too many people to see her all dressed up and alone, she believed, that made her seem desperate for attention.
Scanning the room, Stevie's eyes landed on someone. It was pretty bold of her to assume that he wanted her company, but he sat alone as well and it didn't look like he was waiting for anyone to join him.
"Is this seat taken?" Stevie asked, leaning against the bar, a subtle smile on her face.
The man turned to look, unsure if she was addressing him. It took him a second to respond, but he then smiled too and nodded his head. "Please." He showed with his hand for her to sit down.
