Somewhat carefully, Lindsey sat down and took a deep breath. "I'll tell you the truth, but you have to promise me, you'll hear me out."
Lindsey couldn't believe how careless he was. It didn't even cross his mind that Caroline could have left a mark on him, likely on purpose too. He was angry with her and himself, however, shockingly, Stevie was being completely calm. Why?
"There's this woman at the office." Lindsey began, shifting uncomfortably in his seat. "Way before you and I got together, I was seeing her. We weren't in a relationship, we were just-" He paused, scratching the back of his neck. "Sleeping together, no feelings." He promised. "Tonight, it was just the two of us left and she walked in with very clear intensions." Still no reaction from Stevie, what the hell, Lindsey frowned. "I told her, I wasn't interested, I told her, I have you. She then, uh... she climbed into my lap and went in for a kiss, I turned my head away and this-" He showed to the lipstick stain. "This is from that. I pushed her away, Stevie, I swear to you. I couldn't care less about any other woman." Lindsey insisted, reaching for her hand, he sandwiched it in between his. "I love you, I don't need anyone else."
After a long pause, Stevie only nodded her head and responded with a single word. "Okay."
"O-okay? What..." Lindsey pulled back, his eyebrows creased. "Did you hear any of what I've just told you?"
"Yes." Another one word answer.
"Maybe I shouldn't be saying this, but I kind of expected you to be mad at me." Her eerie calmness made him swallow uneasily. "I thought, you were going to accuse me of sleeping around, yell at me."
"I believe you." Stevie shrugged, she seemed to be somewhere else, far far away. "You've never lied to me."
"Exactly and I'm not lying to you now." Lindsey promised, leaning in closer to press a kiss to her forehead. "Stevie, are you okay? What's going on?"
"I'm fine." She withdrew her hand from his touch and turned to lie on her side, her back facing him.
"Uh, no, you don't sound fine." Lindsey shook his head and placed his hand on her shoulder attempting to turn her again.
"I don't want to talk about it." Stevie shrugged his hand off and pulled her knees up to her chest.
"You can't expect me to just leave you be, when there's clearly something wrong." Lindsey said and walked around the foot of the bed to his side, making her face him this way. "Come on, talk to me. We have no secrets, right?"
Stevie shifted her gaze and her eyes welled up with tears. Lindsey was becoming seriously worried. He couldn't think of anything that might have happened while he was at work to leave her in such a state. He didn't know, what to ask her, so she would open up either.
"Talk to me, baby, I'm begging you." Lindsey scooted over closer to her and his fingers slipped into her hair.
Again, Stevie stayed quiet. Lindsey's hand gently combing her hair did nothing to calm her down. Still, he lay beside her, patiently waiting for her to say something, while she silently cried into her pillow.
"I'm pregnant." She finally told him, she sniffled. "And you've already told me, how you feel about having kids." She added and pulled away from him as far as she could.
