Stevie stood in front of the mirror in the bathroom combing her hair after she'd done her makeup. Be ready by 8, that was all Lindsey said. He didn't give her any more information, she had no idea, where they were going, what he had planned, but she would be lying if she said, she wasn't both a little nervous and excited.
"Can I come in?" Lindsey asked, knocking on the bathroom door even though it was ajar.
"Yes." Stevie replied, putting the hairbrush down. "So, how do I look?" She twirled around, showing off the dress she had picked.
Lindsey smiled, taking a step closer. "Like a million bucks." He gave her a light kiss, their lips barely touched and he scrunched up his face, wiping her lip gloss off.
"Yeah, it doesn't really suit you." Stevie chuckled, taking his hand, when he offered it to her.
The beautiful, luxurious resort they were staying at had its advantages. Lindsey didn't even have to look for anything elsewhere, when he decided, he wanted to do something nice. Or is it romantic, he thought to himself as they were walking towards their destination not that far away.
It felt very much like a date to Stevie. She tried to convince herself that it wasn't, though. Her eyes eventually settled on a row of dimly lit cabanas on the beach. They walked to the very last one, which seemed to be the most private as well.
"I'm sorry if you expected something more. I just-"
"Stop." Stevie shook her head, rising to stand on her tiptoes, she pulled him in for a kiss. "This is perfect."
"Yeah?" Lindsey asked, wanting to make sure, his hands on her side, keeping her close.
"Yeah." She smiled with a nod.
A few candles was the only source of light. There was a bed, taking up most of the space and a small table, a bottle of champagne and a selection of snacks placed on it. It's not a date, Stevie repeated to herself, when Lindsey showed her to make herself comfortable.
"Are we sleeping here tonight too?" Stevie asked, accepting a champagne flute from Lindsey.
"If you like." He shrugged. "But knowing you, you'll be complaining that you're cold in no more than five minutes, so..." He teased, joining her.
"Well, aren't you here to keep me warm?" She scooted over closer to him and his arm naturally wrapped itself around her.
"If you like." Lindsey repeated, pressing a kiss to her temple.
"Are we toasting to something?" She held up her glass.
"Hmm..." Lindsey trailed off, thinking for a moment. "I'm not very good at making toasts, but..." He cleared his throat just to prolong the pause. "What about to this marking the ending of a holiday romance and the beginning of-" He stopped, unsure of how to finish.
"Of something else." Stevie offered, she didn't know much better either.
They clinked their glasses and took a sip, they grew quiet. Words were overrated anyway. There were already a lot of feelings involved, but they chose to keep them to themselves for the time being. Gentle touches, soft kisses were enough reassurance that they felt the same.
"I gotta ask." Stevie spoke up after some time.
"Uh-oh." Lindsey shifted in his position with a nervous laugh. "Well, go ahead." He said, popping a strawberry into his mouth.
"Is this a date?" She finally mustered up the courage, she wasn't going to fall asleep at night if she didn't know.
"What do you think?" Lindsey cocked his head to one side, looking at her as she moved to sit up.
"No." Stevie shook her finger at him. "I asked you."
"Maybe." Lindsey shrugged, breaking up their eye contact to look away.
"Maybe is not good enough." Stevie pouted, but failed to get his full attention. She placed her glass away and straddled him so he couldn't escape her. "Tell me."
Lindsey laughed lightly at her effort then exhaled heavily. "It's a date."
His answer seemed to have satisfied her as she bent down to kiss him. She parted their lips, but didn't move too far away. "You taste delicious."
She didn't quite realize how, but he managed to switch their positions in a blink of an eye, he was suddenly hovering above her. "Nowhere near as delicious as you." He whispered for her ears only.
