Checking his watch Lindsey cursed to himself. He had promised Stevie he'd be home an hour ago. She probably had dinner ready for him, which had gone cold by now. She was likely pissed and overthinking.

'I'm sorry, I'll be home soon.'

Lindsey sent a quick text to reassure Stevie that nothing bad had happened and show her that he was thinking about her. He wasn't surprised, when he didn't receive a message back.

A knock on his office door caught Lindsey's attention and he lifted his eyes up from a stack of papers. "Come in."

"I wasn't sure if you were still here or if you'd left the light on on your way out."

Lindsey gulped and leaned back in his leather chair. He knew that tone of voice, he recognized that sway of her hips as she slowly walked towards him.

"I'm finishing some things up and I'll be outta here." Lindsey said, holding onto his pen firmly as he pressed it down on yet another document he had to sign.

"What's the rush?" She leaned against his desk and leaned back on her hands to support herself.

"Caroline, I-"

"I've missed you." She said, dragging the nose of her stiletto up his calf. "You're always rushing off to your girlfriend, I haven't had a chance to-"

"Exactly." Lindsey now interrupted her. "I have a girlfriend, I'm in a very serious relationship."

"You've been in relationships before." Caroline laughed, throwing her head back, knowing that he could never resist her exposed neck. "No one would know. It's just you and I here, everyone's gone." She continued and stood up straight only to slither into his lap a second later.

"I'm sorry, but I'm not interested." Lindsey insisted, having to physically tear Caroline away from his body. "Things are different this time."

"Oh really?" Caroline scoffed. "What, you've proposed already or something?"

"Well, not yet." Lindsey shook his head and pushed her off, he got up onto his feet and began gathering his belongings. "Doesn't mean that I'm not thinking about it." He shrugged.

"Wow, I'm shocked." She said although there wasn't much emotion in her voice. "Well, you go home and pretend for a while. I'll be here, waiting." She added with a wink.

Left alone, Lindsey needed a minute to compose himself. He didn't do anything wrong, he didn't flirt back, he didn't show any signs that he was interested in whatever Caroline was proposing, yet he still felt shitty that he allowed another woman to crawl into his lap.

On his way home, Lindsey made a quick stop and got a bouquet of Stevie's favorite flowers. With them in his hand, he slid the key into the lock and opened the door to their home. It was quiet and it took Lindsey a minute to find Stevie. As soon as he lay his eyes on her, he knew, she wasn't happy.

"Hey." Lindsey tried to smile. "I'm sorry for being late." Stevie remained tightlipped. Her eyes settled on the flowers. "These are for you."

"What's that?" Stevie asked, her eyes narrowed.

"I said, these are-"

"Not that." Stevie shook her head and pointed at his neck. "Is that lipstick?"
