Her phone pressed to her ear, Stevie walked out of her room, she turned towards the elevator. She called her best friend, Jennifer, to let her in on the latest development of her failing relationship. All it took was for Stevie to mention Dean's name and she had been listening to Jennifer's tirade for the past five minutes.
"Jen, honestly, it's not even that big of a deal." Stevie interrupted her friend as she stepped into the elevator. "I was mad at first, I thought, we were going to... you know, at last, but we got interrupted. It's sad that that's why I was angry."
"And you have every right to be pissed." Jennifer agreed.
"I'm just so tired of him. I wish, he'd just let me go." Stevie sighed, running a hand through her hair.
"Yeah, right. He'd never do that because who else is gonna put up with his shit? Seriously, Stevie, you complain about him all the time, but he gives you ten minutes of his precious time, tells you, he loves you, and you're back to being madly in love with him. You're a catch, you should find yourself a man, who actually wants you."
"Maybe I wouldn't have to have dinner on my own." Stevie nodded, laughing without much humor in her voice.
"Oh my God, that's so embarrassing!" Jennifer yelled out and Stevie had to pull her phone away from her ear.
"Thanks!" Stevie scoffed, rolling her eyes. "Look, I gotta go. I'm no longer in my room, so, talk to you soon, okay?"
"Okay. I love you, bye!"
Telling her friend, goodbye, Stevie hung up and put her phone in her purse. She wished, she hadn't told Jennifer that she was going to eat by herself. After what Jennifer said, Stevie thought for a second if she should go back and order room service instead. Well, she was already out, though. Seated at a small table, which was meant for two, Stevie kept her head low as she looked through the menu. She knew, what she was going to drink, but the food options she struggled with.
"You should try the salmon if you haven't already."
Stevie froze. She recognized his voice, of course, she did, she knew it was him, but she didn't turn around to look. Not that she had to, when Lindsey took a seat across from her.
"Did I say, I wanted your company?" Stevie asked, trying to appear unfazed.
"You've told me, you don't like being alone, so..." Lindsey shrugged, gripping the top of the menu, he lowered it down.
"What makes you think, I am alone?" Stevie cocked her head to one side, waiting for him to answer.
"Just a hunch." Lindsey replied, leaning back in his seat with a smirk on his face. "I'm beginning to suspect that you didn't bring a boyfriend here at all."
"I did." Stevie replied with a nod. "For one whole day." Lindsey frowned, she had his full attention. "You're expecting me to tell you, what happened?"
"Do you have anyone else to talk to?"
Stevie's mouth fell open, the audacity! However, much to his surprise, she started laughing and shrugged her shoulders. She sighed. "He had to go home. Work."
"Huh." Lindsey's response only raised questions. "And you stayed?"
"Well, I'm here, aren't I?"
With a subtle smile on his lips, Lindsey nodded his head. "Good. I'm glad." Stevie was confused to say the least. "So, shall we order?"
