"You- what do you mean, you know?" Stevie asked, completely shocked. "Why didn't you say anything?" Angry tears brimmed her eyes, but she quickly wiped them away. She wasn't going to give Dean the satisfaction of seeing her cry.
"I wanted to see, how long you were planning on keeping up with the charade." Dean shrugged as if he had done nothing wrong.
"You knew and you still tried to force yourself on me?" She was disgusted with him, she felt his hands on her again and closed her eyes, her bottom lip quivered.
"Oh don't be so dramatic." Dean scoffed and went to look for something.
"Dramatic?" Stevie repeated and yelled out. "Dramatic! You're sick."
"And you fucking another man behind my back is not?" Dean returned, his phone in his hand. He scrolled for a second then turned the screen to her. "She looks familiar, doesn't she?"
Stevie frowned, staring at a picture of the same woman, who had approached Lindsey by the pool. She thought nothing of it, she believed that someone else wanted to slither her way into Lindsey's bed. Nothing more.
"You had her spy on me?" Stevie felt lightheaded. How could she have been so stupid? Sure, Dean had left, but there were other people around. The thought didn't even cross her mind.
"I knew something was up." Dean said, his eyes narrowed at her. "And I wasn't wrong." He shook his head, showing a whole bunch of photos of Stevie and Lindsey in various compromising situations.
"I'm going to be sick." Stevie sat down, she put her head in her hands, taking deep breaths.
"Why? Because you got caught or because you cheated on me?" Dean tossed his phone away and crossed his arms. "Tell me, what more did you need? I gave you everything. You lived in an expensive apartment, you drove a car, which costs more than some people make in a year, you could buy everything you wanted and I never said one word about it as long as you were happy."
"Happy?" Stevie laughed harshly. "I was happy? Yes, you gave me all of those things, but you never gave yourself to me."
"Oh, here we go again." Dean rolled his eyes, disappearing from the bedroom again to open a bottle of whiskey from his large collection.
"It's true!" Stevie followed behind him. "I was never your top priority. Well, okay, that's not fair. I was until you were sure that you had me and that took what, a few months?"
"I didn't force you into this relationship." Dean shrugged, downing a large gulp.
"No, apparently you can only force yourself on me." As soon as those words left her mouth, Stevie felt his fingers wrap tightly around her upper arm. "Oh, so you're going to hit me now, too?"
He was angry, breathing heavily, but he let go of her. "I gave you everything you've ever wanted." He repeated.
"No, you haven't!" Stevie shouted in his face. It could have ended badly for her, after all, physically she was no match to him, but she had to get it all off her chest. "Whenever I brought up marriage, you suddenly had a business call. Whenever I told you, I wanted to have children, you told me that now was not the time. That's what I've always wanted. Not your apartment or a car, or your money."
"You can try and talk your way out of this, but the truth remains the same - you had an affair." Dean said, pointing a finger at her. "You should be apologizing to me, not yelling at me."
"Oh my God..." Stevie exhaled heavily, pinching the bridge of her nose. "I'm not going to apologize to you, Dean. You know, why? Because I'm not sorry."
"Right. You fucked someone else and now you're deeply in love?" He laughed shaking his head. "Do you honestly believe that you were more than just an easy lay for him?"
She took a moment to compose herself, he was just saying that to get back at her. "Maybe I was." She swallowed uneasily, a tear rolled down her cheek. "Even if, I don't regret it. I don't regret being with a man, who wanted to be with me too. If I never see him again, so be it. It was never meant to be." She shrugged weakly. "But I know now that you and I are not meant to be either."
"Get out." Dean said, his voice eerily calm. "Just get the hell out of here."
"Gladly." Stevie didn't disagree as she turned around and walked away.
