Layla's POV
We entered the ballroom and as soon as we made our presence known, Beth looked our way, and a big smile plastered over her face as she walked towards us.
She was wearing a dress which complimented her fair skin, I had to admit, she looked elegant in the dress but that doesn't mean I stopped hating her for how she treated Vanessa.
"Finally you two are here, you both are our main for today's ball. Everyone's been waiting." She looked at me, as her eyes scanned me.
"The dress looks gorgeous on you! I decided that red would suit you the best." Well, I have to give it to you Beth, red indeed suits me.
"Now now, I won't take much of your time, Rosie," she tried to meet Sinn's gaze but he looked her way intimidatingly which made her lower her gaze. "And Victor, you can go and make yourself known to the rest."
She left after that and I looked over at Sinn who stared right in front of him, his dangerously intimidating demeanor was already activated but I didn't feel the least threatened by it.
I felt safe when he was near me and it was weird cause he would be the first-ever man to make me feel safe near them.
Cause not even my father made me feel that. Why am I even thinking of him and ruining my mood when I have to concentrate on this mission.
It has begun.
Sinn and I walked over to the people who looked at us and fake smiled, checking out both of us.
We made small talk, well, it was mostly me cause Sinn just stood there quietly looking pissed as fuck which made people uncomfortable and intimidated by his presence.
After half an hour of roaming around the hall and making small talks with people I know nothing about or had never seen or heard about, we finally got some time to catch our breaths, now again, mostly me cause I had to react to whatever they asked.
My eyes landed on the statue which is the main goal of our mission who stood there tauntingly. To have it will only lead to ending it successfully.
Just as we were standing there peacefully and enjoying our time alone without any stranger's company, classical music started playing and people started walking in the middle of the room with their partners and started waltzing slowly to the music.
I stared at them as they each had hold of their partner's hand and the other on their waist as they moved to the beat.
I was focusing my gaze on the couples dancing in front of me when suddenly his words took my attention instead.
"Want to dance?" I turned my head to look at him and he was already looking at me. My heart did that weird thing that I hated but still, it gave me this sensation that I couldn't hate completely.
"We're the center of attention, wouldn't want to make them suspicious of us." He added and I continued looking at him as he did the same.
He put forward his hand, and I gazed at it briefly before I took it, putting my hand on his and even though I was wearing gloves, his warmth still made its way to my bare skin.
He gripped my hand and my eyes were met with his multiple rings which flashed before them before we started walking towards the dance floor in the middle.
He was right indeed. Everyone had their gaze on us but I had mine on him and his on me. It was easing my nerves which were going crazy with the passing minute.
I took out a deep breath and the lights dimmed as the music changed and we both bowed to each other and started to move to the beat, knowing the steps as the music progressed.
I had to learn how to dance since I was little cause the only event we went to as a family was balls. I never danced there with anyone cause I didn't want to with some stranger and cause my father wanted me to and I didn't want to give in to him and dance with random strangers.
So I would just look at everyone else from a safe distance and even if anyone tried to ask me out, I would decline them as politely as I could.
I held up my palm as did he, and he met the palm of his hand with mine as we had our other behind our back. We circled, our eyes locked on each other as the beat changed and he kept the hand behind his back on my waist and I kept mine on his shoulder.
He entwined our hands whose palms were against each other and we continued waltzing to the music.
"Didn't know you'd know the dance to this," Sinn commented and I had to tilt my head up to meet his gaze properly.
This dance had a lot of steps to memorize which made it quite hard and we both knew it so I get where he's coming from."I might not look like it but my family is quite prestigious." Not like the Astor's of course, but the people underground would've heard of my father's name. And we've attended our fair share of balls, well my parents not I cause I didn't want to go anywhere with my father even if it was a ball I would love to go to. I did had to attend some otherwise he would get angry.
I saw him staring at me as he twirled me and caught me back in our position. Our body was pressed to one another which would make him able to hear the sound of my heart beating rapidly.
We moved slowly to the music and all I wanted to do at this moment was to keep my head on his shoulder as we swayed.
"I love balls, but I want to have a ball to myself where there's just me no one else, in a huge ballroom where I'm in a gown dancing with someone I'm comfortable with." Someone I adore. "And we're having the time of our lives!"
Sinn listened to my random fantasies which I said out loud silently, and I regretted saying it out loud but then he spoke making all the regrets disappear,
"One day, you'll have it as you wish."
Even if he was just saying it to respect my feelings or whatever, his words made me feel warm like they always do.
A smile spread over my lips as I stared back at him, our hands entwined as his other wrapped around my waist. My hand pressed against his shoulder, and I couldn't hide my smile anymore as his silver eyes stared down at my lips.
My breathing accelerated as his face neared mine, I felt his warm breath over my face making me stare at how kissable his lips were.
His nose grazed mine and my heart tingled by his mere touch. His eyes flickered between my lips and eyes as our lips were millimeters apart that I almost felt them grazing over one another.
A loud gunshot was heard with people's screaming. The lights turned back on and the music stopped. People running around and screaming in their panicked voices echoed in the ballroom.
My eyes met with Sinn's, his forehead rested on mine and he didn't back away making our lips far enough that any movement would connect them.
His hand which rested on my waist, cupped the side of my face, the coolness of his rings made contact with my bare skin.
His deep voice silenced the chaos which was happening around us for me,
"They're here."
