Layla's POV

He thankfully focused his attention on the Astor family which were on their knees with the four men pointing their guns at them.

"Look who we got here," Papa Don walked past me to them and stood in front of them, I took a few steps away from him to make some distance between us.

"Fucking traitors," he spat and Ross looked up at him.

"Don, you fucking bastard I swear to god I'll kill you," Ross shouted at him and Papa Don held out his hand and one of his men searched for something.

"It was my family's biggest mistake to join hands with the mafia, you fucking ruined me and my whole family." He hissed and Papa Don fixed his gaze on him.

"What fucking ungrateful lads you Astor lot are. Enjoying all the lavishness being provided through the mafia and then you badmouth us. Such disrespectful beings. You disgust me."

Papa Don muttered but Ross still glared at him

"I already signed out from the mafia, you can't force us now!" Ross shouted but his words didn't leave an impact on him as he continued looking down at him with his wrinkled eyes.

"There is no signing out of the mafia, only death can part us." And with that Papa Don shot 4 bullets at each of them, digging a hole in between their eyes.

I felt frozen to my spot as my eyes landed on Veronica's now lifeless and all of their bodies fell.

Smoke emitted out of his gun and he held it out for the man behind him to take it and put it back from where he got it out.

Papa Don touched his forehead with his right hand as he performed the sign of the cross continuing,

"Amen," everyone else repeated after him as they did the sign of the cross themselves and my eyes went to Sinn who muttered under his breath, his lips moving as his eyes met with mine.

"Amen."

It was a ritual of them, after every big kill, like showing respect to their dead bodies, more like mocking them.

"Get rid of the bodies," Papa Don ordered and turned on his steps as he left the room his army of men following behind him.

Their bodies won't be buried, they betrayed the Mafia and so they'll be fed to the dogs. Even Veronica.

I couldn't care less for the rest but for her, my heart ached and there was nothing I could do now.

I didn't notice when Mattheo and Luca came to stand beside me when Mattheo's hand grabbed hold of my shoulder and I was pulled back to my senses.

"Layla, thank god your fine!" He exhaled in relief and I still couldn't take out the image of Vanessa's void eyes and that she didn't deserve to just die like that.

"We need to get out of here," Luca said and I looked at him still out of it after I witnessed what just happened.

Nonetheless, I had to pull myself together and walk with them out of the Astor mansion.

We were successful in our mission but I didn't feel the least happy.
