Layla's POV
"Stand up, you've done a splendid job," Papa Don told them, his voice hoarse like that of an old man but still powerful
The three of them got up at once but still had their eyes facing down.
"I'm proud of my Three Devils." He smirked and the three of them didn't respond with anything and just stood there.
Papa Don's eyes then scanned the room and met with mine. I flinched a little bit masked it maintaining my posture. No matter how old this man looked but there was something to the man which would make you shiver.
"Oh, so I see you've already retrieved what's mine." He said gazing at the statue in my arms which I have been holding as my life depended on it.
He walked towards me and stopped before me, leaving a safe amount of space between us. Now that he's close he's a lot taller than what I'd imagined him to be next to those three.
He was taller than me so I had to turn my head slightly to meet his gaze.
"You must be the recruit for the missions, what must be your name?" He asked me and I looked at him while answering, "Layla." I stated simply making him arch his brow.
From the corner of my eyes, I peeked through his shoulder and saw those three's gazes locked on me. They had a serious expression on their faces and my eyes briefly met with Sinn's cold ones before I was pulled away from them.
"And what must be your full name, Layla?" He questioned me further and I hated that question with all of my being. Just as much I hated my fucking father.
"I'm sorry to say I go only with my first name, sir," I told him while looking at him and there was a small smirk lingering on his face.
"Oh, a runaway you must be? Well poor you must've been through a lot. A wise choice you made by joining to work with us." He chuckled, his voice heavy and I forced a tight smile but it wasn't helping.
"And who must you be working under?" He questioned me again and it seemed like we weren't here to take the statue but to interrogate me.
I took a deep breath as I tried to contain my annoyance with his continuous questions.
"Sinn Phoenix, sir."
"Sinn Phoenix, one of my finest among the Three Devils. The Lucifer they call him and you would've gotten to know why didn't you?" He asked me again and I let out a fake laugh and nodded my head slightly cause fucking yes I did see it.
His sharp eyes then moved to the statue, "It must be heavy for a little girl like you carrying this heavy little thing," he eyed his men to take it from me and they did, I let it go immediately, and even though it was heavy that didn't mean I had difficulty carrying it as this old man said.
"It's indeed heavy but it wasn't difficult enough for a little girl like me to carry at all. Sir." I more like retorted and added sir at the end to try to sound respectful.
The old man gazed at me and a smile formed on his lips, "A feisty girl you are, I'll advise you to watch your mouth cause women with big mouths such as yours don't make it long in our world."
He mumbled, his expression getting cold but I didn't look away from him.
He walked away from me and towards the Astor family that were on their knees.
