Hawkins was a relatively small town.
Everyone knew everyone.
After all, they all grew up together.
After leaving New York so suddenly with Hopper and at a young age, Ophelia now saw Hawkins as her home.
She realized in time that while she loved the city she grew up in and had many cherished moments with her parents there- she could have two homes, even if they weren't here to share it with her.
It wasn't filled with their laughter and love 24/7 but instead filled with her own laughter and Hopper's who grew to love her as his own.
Sure, they both still felt that pain from losing their loved ones all those years ago but it was a little easier having each other by their sides.
It was still surreal to Hopper though. One minute he was taking the long trip to Hawkins wondering how he would raise a kid all on his own and the next thing he knew, he was about to celebrate her sixteenth birthday.
He remembered his partner talking about the importance of her sixteenth and he had been trying to read up on it, trying to find out all he could about a 'sweet sixteen' and it took forever to plan but he finally did it- threw her the perfect party.
It was truly everything she could've hoped for.
Hopper, Joyce, Jonathan and Will there along with the three other boys she grew to love like her own little brothers. And, of course, Steve being her escort and doing it proudly with kids from the school all present and actually enjoying themselves.
For once, Ophelia was actually excited to go to school on her birthday after getting so many compliments about her party over the weekend.
Hopper was still sad though, reminiscing about the party and the fact that he not only did it by himself but she surprised him herself when she insisted they do the father daughter dance.
Seeing the video back made him truly realize how grown she had gotten.
"A sixteen year old. I officially have a sixteen year old."
"Calm down, Hops," Ophelia rolled her eyes playfully, "I'm not going to change all of a sudden just because I'm a year older."
"That's what they all say!"
"Well, trust me. I'm not," she smiled, stiffening up when she heard something fall in her room.
"What was that?" Hopper looked up towards her bedroom.
"I uh... nothing. Probably... just... something fell- I'll go pick it up."
"No, no. You're the birthday girl. I'll pick it up."
"Hopper-"
"Unless there's something my newly sixteen year old is hiding from me now that she's changed?"
