A month had passed before things started to feel even a fraction of normal.

Of course, things have definitely changed since Will was taken by the Demogorgon.

Joyce was even more protective of Will. Hell, even Jonathan was.

They never let him out of their sights. The only exception was when he was safe with the other boys and they were sure he wasn't in any danger.

Steve and Nancy were giving their relationship another try but that was partly because Jonathan and Ophelia decided to give their own relationship a try too- or so they thought.

Ophelia was only ever really being the emotional support Jonathan so desperately needed. The two of them never even realized that the ones they wanted to be with turned to each other. By the time they did realize, they decided to just leave it at that, not wanting to cause more trouble after everything they had just been through.

It was just a whole lot of miscommunication.

But in the end, it was what made the most sense to them all... even if things were a little awkward between the four.

"Are you sure this isn't weird? Me coming with you?"

"It's actually best if you're here. I definitely do not need to be forced to stay and watch Steve and Nancy," he shuddered before knocking on the Wheeler's door, "If anyone can get us out of Mrs. Wheeler's grip, it's you."

"Right. But you do realize you're just throwing me under the bus?"

"Says the girl who insisted we were dating when Lonnie came over that one time."

"It was Lonnie! I had to do it-"

"Then why did it continue when he left? Why is it still going on now?"

"I'm sorry. Are you complaining about being my fake boyfriend?"

"Not at all," he faked a smile, "Just... wondering how long you plan on keeping this up. All the way until Steve and Nancy are married?"

"I haven't decided," she cleared her throat, "And can we please not mention that dreaded-"

"Look who it is! The happy couple!"

"Hey, Mrs. Wheeler," Ophelia giggled, "Merry Christmas."

"Merry Christmas to you too, honey. The boys are downstairs."

"I'll go down for Will," Jonathan quickly offered, not wanting to be stuck in the house for much longer than he needed.

"And you are coming with me," she grabbed Ophelia's hand to pull her into the house, "I've made a ton of food- plenty for you to take home to Hopper."

"That's sweet, Mrs. Wheeler, but we're just going to... the Byers."

She got distracted momentarily seeing Steve sitting in the living room with his Christmas sweater on- one she picked out for him.
