For seven years, all Ophelia Flores knew was New York.

It was what she was comfortable with.

It was her home.

But that all changed drastically in such a short time.

One minute, she was the happiest she's ever been. Having two parents who loved her with everything in them. Living in a nice neighborhood with neighbors she loved and grew to know over the years.

And a best friend who, even at such a young age, knew she was meant to be in her life through it all.

But, unfortunately, cancer didn't seem to agree with her future plans.

Sara Hopper was taken way too soon shortly after finding out she was sick in the first place.

It was devastating, losing someone at such a young age who she was so used to spending every waking moment with.

It was also even more devastating when she lost her parents shortly after.

It was easily the hardest time of her life and it didn't help that she felt completely alone without her parents and best friend with her.

For a while, it was unsure where she would even end up.

As much love as her parents showed her, they weren't so lucky in the family area themselves.

Rosemary and William Flores always bonded over the fact that their parents weren't present and were the only child in their families so they made due with what they were given.

Granted, it didn't take long for them to find each other and to vow that they would never treat their child the way they were treated.

But at just seven years old, Ophelia felt that loss of her parents and wanted so desperately to have them back so she wouldn't end up god knows where with who knows what kind of parents.

Luckily, when Hopper looked at his partner's daughter and daughter's best friend, he knew he couldn't just abandon her.

Especially not when he and Diane decided to split. He figured that could be something they bonded about.

Feeling so lonely- together.

It was a bit of a process but it wasn't long before Hopper was named Ophelia's guardian and was taking the road trip to Hawkins, Indiana with their things.

Granted, he mostly took her belongings since he didn't really have much he cared for. He just needed to get out of New York. Get away from the memories.

As Ophelia saw the city she loved get smaller and smaller in the rear view mirror, she surprisingly didn't feel as sad as she thought she would.

She was anxious, if anything, of what her new home would hold.
