"Birthday."

Ophelia jumped slightly at the sudden voice, making Hopper laugh quietly.

"That's not what we do, El. We do this- happy birthday to you..."

"Oh dear god," Ophelia laughed when she saw Hopper and El standing in front of her with a candle on a cupcake.

By the time they finished the song, she was sitting up and clapping for them.

"Blow out the candle, birthday girl."

She thought for a minute before blowing out the candle, making Hopper cheer as he handed her the cupcake.

"For you- and breakfast is almost ready too," Hopper smiled before leaving the girls alone.

Ophelia smiled to herself, immediately taking a bite out of her cupcake when she noticed El watching her.

"What is it?"

"Can I get a birthday present?"

"Um... El, that's not how it works. It isn't your birthday, it's mine. You have to give me a present."

"I got you a present," she held out a poorly wrapped gift.

"Ah. Let me guess. Dad wrapped this?"

She nodded, "He said it was from both of us."

"Well, thank you."

"Can I get my present now?"

"You still only get presents on your birthday, El," Ophelia explained again when she got up.

"Maybe I can get early present?"

"Okay, I'll bite. What do you want?"

She watched as El rushed out of her room, only to return moments later with a blanket now over her.

"Trick or treat."

"Right. That is something you have to discuss with Hopper. Let me know how that goes- I have to get dressed for school."

When she came out dressed, she knew the conversation didn't go well with the look on both of their faces.

"Happy birthday, Ophelia!" Hopper tried to lighten the mood.

"Birthday," El grumbled.

"If you want, I can just take her trick or treating," Ophelia mumbled out of earshot of El, knowing how upset Hopper would be if he felt like she was undermining him.

"You have that party you've been going on and on about. You can't take her."

"Right. But I could take her out before the party? And there's usually not a lot of people out by then."

"I think I'll just settle for my plan," Hopper brushed her off, setting her plates on the small table before explaining the deal to El who eventually agreed.
