Third Wheeling(Ness x Reader)

(Y/N) P.O.V:

I was on the trip to save the world with Ness and Paula. We were leaving the abandoned Happy-happy village, Ness and I have just saved Paula and we were preparing to go to Threed. 

Ness and Paula were walking ahead of me, with Ness being his casual self, talking and making jokes while Paula laughed along and blushed. I was lagging behind, staring at my shoes and trying to ignore the scene. It was kind of hard to ignore it though, especially since Paula had her arm linked with Ness's.

After an hour of this, we had finally reached Twoson, but it wasn't daytime anymore. Ness turned to face Paula, then me. "We should stop at a hotel for the night."

Paula nodded and I trudged behind them.

Ness booked a room, and he beckoned me to follow. On our way down the hallway, Paula tripped, so Ness bent down and picked her up bridal style as a joke and started running towards the room. At this point the both of them were blushing from laughing a lot. I rolled my eyes and followed them.

Once we entered the room, Ness set Paula down, and Paula left to go use the restroom. I immediately passed by Ness to go stand on the balcony.

When I got out on the balcony, I shut the door behind me and looked out over Twoson. This trip has been upsetting so far....

Before this whole trip, I used to live in Onett, just like Ness did. We were really good friends since grade school, and Ness was probably my first major friend. We played together a lot, we walked home from school together, and sometimes he'd invite me over just to play ball or go to the arcade with him. 

After a while, I became smitten with Ness. He was the perfect boy in my opinion, and I loved spending time with him. When he asked me to join him on his quest to save the world, I immediately said yes.

 At first the trip was fun, with Ness and I defeating the Sharks and the first Sanctuary Guardian, but it all got sour when we saved Paula from being a sacrifice of the Happy-happyists. 

Paula immediately thanked only Ness for saving her and stuck with him. She obviously had a crush on him, and the part that hurt the most was that it seemed like he liked her back. Ever since Paula joined us, she and Ness have been sticking together and ignoring me. Well, I guess that makes sense, I'm not really noticeable to begin with...

I was so lost in my thoughts that I got startled hearing the door to the balcony slide open. Ness walked over and stood next to me, checking out the view. "It's nice here, isn't it?

I didn't feel like answering, so I ignored his question. "(Y/N)?"

I reluctantly turned to face him. Ness looked somewhat concerned. "Are you alright?"

"What do you mean?"

He shrugged. "You've been quiet ever since Paula joined us."

I turned away from him. "Is that a problem? I don't have anything to say." I meant to come off a bit upset with that remark.

Ness looked a bit annoyed. "(Y/N), I'm just asking if you're upset or anything, but obviously you are."

I turned to face him. "Of course I'm upset! Don't you think I have a valid reason why? Ever since Paula joined us, I've basically been the third wheel, and it's been miserable. "

Ness looked surprised by my outburst.

"Be honest, the only reason why you came to talk to me was because Paula is busy."

Ness frowned. "That's true..."

I felt like I was gonna cry. Ness tried to put his hand on my shoulder, but I shrugged it off. "All I wanted to do was spend time with you. That's the whole reason why I came here with you! But all you've been doing since Paula joined is flirt with her..."

By this point, I was already sobbing. "And to think you actually liked me back..."

Ness looked extremely upset. He wrapped his arms around me and pulled me into a hug, then pulled away just enough so we could face each other. He then put his hand on my cheek and began wiping my tears with his thumb. 

Ness frowned at me. "I'm really sorry (Y/N)... I was just messing around with Paula.. I didn't mean to make you feel left out. There was also something else that made me talk to you less..."

Ness leaned in and pressed his lips on mine. I was frozen in shock. After a few seconds, Ness pulled away and gave me a small smile. "I'm really sorry... Will you forgive me?"

I still felt a bit upset for Ness ignoring me, but I understood that his apology was genuine, and I really didn't like being mad at him. Besides, he just kissed me! "...I forgive you..."

Ness hummed appreciatively and pulled me in for another kiss, this time I leaned in as well. We both pulled away and I leaned onto Ness's shoulder while he stroked my hair.

"I love you (Y/N)."

I smiled on his shoulder. "I love you too Ness."

We then pulled away when we heard the bathroom door open and Paula stepped out.

AN: This was supposed to be out a LOT earlier but my energy flopped so I kind of procrastinated with this one :/ I'll try to have the next chapter out faster as an apology. Thank you for understanding and I'll see you next chapter!
