AN: I've decided to try a different form of writing. Instead of using the whole "(Y/N)" type code, I want to try writing without using it as a cop-out. This will be from your point of view. Let's see how this turns out...
I was in my room, reading a book I got for my birthday. I was snapped out of my thoughts by the doorbell ringing and my mom calling my name.
"Could you come get the door, please?"
"Coming," I muttered, and reluctantly pushed myself out of my chair. I opened my bedroom door and made my descent downstairs, then unlocked and opened the front door. I saw a familiar red-capped friend straighten up a little and smile back at me.
"I was waiting for you to show up at my place, but you never did." Ness looked at me expectantly. "Didn't you say you wanted to ride bikes with me today?"
Oh snap, I forgot. "I did, sorry. I must have forgot."
An awkward silence ensued, and we stared at each other awkwardly. The silence was broken by my mom calling me again. "Who is it? You've been at the door for a while now."
I stuck my head back in. "Ness is here. We're going to go ride bikes together. Is that okay?"
"That's fine, just be back by nine, it's already getting dark." I nodded and left the front door, closing it behind me. I grabbed my bike off the front porch, and we both cycled off.
We were just biking quietly and aimlessly around town when Ness spoke up. "Hey, can we stop at Giant Step? There's something I want to see there."
This whole thing felt painfully awkward, and I could see that he was trying to make it, well, less awkward between us. We cycled up to Giant Step, then left our bikes outside the traveling entertainer's shack, because we couldn't bike through the caves.
We passed through the dilapidated shack, then entered the caves. There weren't any monsters or anything, just some Rowdy Mice and Black Antoids, and they were doing their best to avoid Ness, considering the fact that he did defeat the Titanic Ant that used to rule these caves.
After passing through tunnels and climbing rope ladders, Ness and I finally reached the plateau where the giant footprint was located. By this time, the sun was setting over Onett, and it looked absolutely mesmerizing.
Ness sat on the grass and motioned for me to do the same. When I did, he slipped his arm around my waist, pulling me close to him, which made my face heat up. I turned to see his face, and to my surprise, he looked somewhat upset.
He glanced over at me. "Why aren't we on good terms anymore?"
This remark surprised me. "What do you mean? We are on good terms."
He shook his head in disagreement. "Not really. You don't talk to me as much as you used to." He frowned at me. "What happened? Did I do something wrong?"
So, he really did notice... I didn't mean to make it obvious...
At that moment, I forgot that Ness is a psychic, and he can read minds. He obviously heard what I thought, because he stiffened and removed his hand from my waist right after I thought that. He then frowned at me. "Did I hurt you or anything?"
"No...no, I just-" I guess it's about time I come clean about my feelings. "I just feel like you've changed. Ever since you've returned from your trip to save the world..."
"It's like, you've matured a bit and you're just this awesome guy, and... I don't know, I guess it makes me feel like... I'm just the same little kid that used to tag along with you back when we were younger."
Ness nodded understandingly, then stood up and extended his arm towards me to help me up. I took his hand, and he pulled me up. He put his hand on my shoulder and smiled softly as he said my name, which made my cheeks flush pink.
"That's why you've been ignoring me? I thought I messed up. You scared me at first."
He pulled me into his arms and whispered to me. "You're growing and changing as much as I am. You aren't the same little kid that I knew years ago. I'm glad that you've been with me all these years, and I hope you'll continue to be with me as we get older."
He smiled at me and leaned in, planting a quick kiss on my lips. I flushed bright red right after, making him laugh a little. "I really love you; you know."
I smiled. "I love you too."
AN: This work was a lot more difficult than what I'm used to, but I liked it! However, I'm just going to use the (Y/N) thing because I'm lazy n' shit. I might try using something somewhat like this in the separate book, but no promises. Anyways, I hope you enjoyed this, and I'll see you next chapter!
