Hades
I'm sitting across from Persephone watching her as she eats the last bit of her lunch. She seems to be in high spirits, which bothers me a lot because she just lost her child. Shouldn't she be angry, upset, or grieving? Everything tells me that it's going to be okay, she's going to be okay. But I don't believe it.
"I know you're worried about me," Persephone says.
She picks up her coffee cup and takes a sip of her coffee.
"I am. You don't seem bothered about losing the baby."
She gives me a chuckle, "Hades, Persephone and I have accepted the loss of our child. What do you want me to do? Throw myself against the wall."
I sigh, "No baby, I just. You're just acting so unbothered by it, it's worrying me."
Persephone finishes her cup of coffee, and she teleports her dishes to the sink. She looks down at the table and sighs.
"All I want to do is find my baby's soul so we can bury her, and we can all leave in peace and move on Hades,"
"I know baby but why would Persephone, you seem relaxed about this. I need to know why?"
"When we got to the hospital there were a lot of things happening, spirits were there and the night twins but as soon as we started to focus on the baby, we felt nothing, no heartbeat, no movement, nothing. That's when she started to tell me that I needed to let go, to mourn the loss of our baby and I listened."
"Why didn't Hades do the same for me?"
Persephone shrugs, "I don't know honestly. Do you talk to Hades?"
I shake my head, "I hate that piece of shit."
"And that's the problem? What did you two do to each other that you constantly have to punish each other for?"
I close my eyes, "You wouldn't understand."
"I am your wife, make me understand, I have to understand."
I sigh, "No, you wouldn't be able to handle it."
"Fuck you Hades, all we ever do is try with you. Why does everything have to be a secret? The reason we are in this mess is that you are keeping secrets from me."
"This is beyond your control Persephone, now do your deity self a favour and leave it the hell alone!"
Persephone's eyes turn red and that's a signal for me to calm down and either walk away or apologise.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to yell."
Persephone does not say a word. She gets up from her chair and leaves the cabin.
"Fuck!"
I can hear Hades laughing in my head.
"You are a piece of shit; you know that right."
He laughs, 'I know, and you know what she's right, I love to watch you suffer.'
"Look, I know what I did was wrong, but you can't keep doing this to me."
'Oh Hades, I can do whatever I want.'
"What can I do to make peace with you?"
'Tell the truth, every little thing. Her parents, the contract, the baby. Everything Hades.'
I couldn't, she would hate me and the last thing I want to do is piss off Persephone, she is a force of nature.
"Fuck you."
Persephone
I can't believe he raised his voice at me. He is so unbelievable.
I am walking down the beach enjoying the sand on my feet, the sun, the ocean breeze, and the sound of the waves. I needed this, to think, to plan, to understand everything that's happened in the last 48 hours and why Persephone has been acting the way she has.
"Why?"
'You know, your husband won't be happy to find out about this.'
"To hell with him, all he ever does is lie to me and claim to be protecting me."
'Men, all they ever think about is saving themselves.'
"What do we do?"
'We find Hecate, she is the key to everything and once we do that, we go for the night twins and your mother.'
I nod and look out into the ocean, "Fifi, I could use some advice right now."
The sun a little brighter and Amphitrite walks out of the ocean, she gives a smile and walks towards me. She had her hair in a high ponytail, had her crown on her head, and a baby blue toga with a silver braided belt around her small waist.
"You called for my dear?"
I get up a give her a hug, "Oh Fifi, I'm glad to see you."
"I too baby, how are you doing? Is everything okay?"
I shake my head, "I need your help with something, I need you to get some information from your husband."
"What information?"
"On what happened between Hades and his demon?"
Fifi shakes her head and steps back, "No, I can't do that. My husband doesn't like being interrogated about Hades."
"Fifi, come on, can you at least try?"
"Honey, I love you, you are grieving but I am not putting my ass on the line for something that your husband has to be honest about."
"Dammit, what's with you people and your damn secrets,"
I feel anger building inside me and clench my fists and close my eyes.
"You just keep lying and protecting each other and not once do you think about how that makes me feel,"
"Persephone calm down, okay."
"I will not calm down," I scream.
There is a massive explosion of light and Fifi falls back and into the water. Everything inside me wants to kill her, to hurt her for lying and protecting them, I step closer to her, and she starts moving into the water, I get closer to her and grab her by the neck.
"Persephone, stop," she chokes out.
I squeeze her neck tighter, and I catch a glimpse of my reflection in the water, and I barely recognize myself, my eyes are black, my hair is jet black. I release Fifi and she drops into the water.
"Oh my gosh, I am so sorry Fifi,"
"Do not come any closer," she begs, "Please."
"Fifi, I don't know what came over me, I'm sorry."
I step closer to her and the fear in her eyes, breaks my heart she turns to liquid, and she's gone.
"What the hell is wrong with you?" I cry, "She was one of the few people we could trust, and you almost murder her. Why?"
'For way too long, these people have treated you like damn weak defenceless women. I had to fight back and that will cheat them not to lie to me.'
