The night of the ball rolled around and the girls were getting ready in their dorm.

"Can we go to the beach next weekend" Astoria was at the vanity straightening her hair "The beach? In September" Pansy chuckled
"Good point" Astoria giggled "I've just always wanted to visit the beach"
"You have your whole life to go to the beach. We'll go in the summer or something" Lilli shrugged. She was already dressed and laying on her bed waiting for the other two girls.

"I swear if that bitch turns up wearing yellow I won't be able to contain myself" Astoria howled "Oh my god, I will die" Pansy shouted. Lilli was reading the book Mattheo had bought her, she flicked the page and found a quote highlighted near the end of the page.

"It has made me better loving you... it has made me wiser, and easier, and brighter. I used to want a great many things before, and to be angry that I did not have them. Theoretically, I was satisfied. I flattered myself that I had limited my wants. But I was subject to irritation. I used to have morbid sterile hateful fits of hunger, of desire. Now I really am satisfied, because I can't think of anything better." Lilli grinned as she read the quote. Did Mattheo really think like that? Did he actually enjoy her company? She had to admit she was slowly warming up to the boy. Her resentment had faded and she didn't feel any hatred toward him anymore. She wanted to hate him, she really did, but it was getting harder every day. He made such an effort, remembering her favorite things, protecting her and her friends, asking her to the ball and even giving her a beautiful ring. She looked down at her finger and smiled at the ring. The door knocked and pulled her out of her thoughts. Astoria jumped up and ran to open it.
