The Tides Change

"Good afternoon" Enzo slid onto a log across the fire from Mattheo "nice to see you outside of your tent" he smiled, Mattheo replied with a nod "I brought you some food, you missed lunch" Mattheo denied the plate "what's the new girls deal?" he mumbled "helping us learn wandless magic, so we can kill that bastard" Mattheo looked up at Enzo, a glint of amusement in his eye "Language Enzo" he joked "oh sorry" Enzo whispered "I'm kidding" Mattheo shook his head at the boys sheer innocence. They both fell silent for a little while

Enzo moved closer to Mattheo when he noticed his leg shaking rapidly. He placed a hand on Mattheos knee "I know how hard this must be for you, but we need you" He tried to reassure the other boy. Mattheo's attempt at hiding the tears welling up in his eyes failed and a single tear drop fell, landing on Enzo's hand. Enzo didn't say anything, he just simply wrapped an arm over Mattheo shoulders and pulled him into a hug.

They stayed like this for a while until some shouting caught their attention "what's going on?" Mattheo rushed toward the noise.
PJade was shooting large white balls of light at the group. In an attempt to save his friends Mattheo flung a dagger toward her arm. The dagger pierced through her sleeve, pinning the attacking arm to a tree behind her.
"Impressive skills" she chuckled and Mattheo stormed toward her "Riddle, it's alright" Theo grabbed Mattheos chest and stopped him with one hand "we were just sparing, she's teaching us some basics" Theo turned and pulled out the dagger, handing it back to Mattheo.
"Err.. sorry" Mattheo scratched the back of his neck awkwardly "Don't be, loyalty is always a good attribute and they were some cool moves" Jade rubbed her wrist "perfect accuracy" she nodded approvingly, Mattheo cleared his thoat "thanks". Jade smiled warmly "walk with me?"
Mattheo shrugged and followed her.

"We haven't been formally introduced" Jade stated "Jade Williams" "Mattheo Riddle" Jade breathed a quiet laugh "unlucky" Mattheo nodded "yup". The pair didn't look at each other, both staring straight ahead "And what was Lilli to you?" Jade asked quite abruptly "Pardon?" Mattheo choked
"Well" Jade began "Pansy was her best friend, Theo's even higher he's like her twin flame, Enzo was like a little brother and Blaise was like her older brother, Dracos the annoying cousin. What are you?" Mattheo raised a brow "Well you seemed to have analysed us pretty quickly, that's usually my job" he smirked "what do YOU think?"

"You were her forbidden love, the reason we're all here today" Jade stopped walking and finally turned to look at him. "You don't know me, you don't know any of us. You can't blame me for everything that's happened to us" he snapped "Well why not? You do" She waited for the explosion but it never happened, he took a deep breath and dropped his head "Yeah your right".

"But it's not really your fault, you are not the reason she's dead" Jade put a hand on his shoulder "But if you keep thinking like that, you'll be the reason for the others deaths. You need to be on top form, it's what she would've wanted" Jade didn't let him reply, she turned and walked back to camp leaving Mattheo alone in the trees to think.

He lay down on the grass and watched the stars. One was brighter than the rest, right there next to Sirius.
"She's probably right, you would be laughing at me right now" he chuckled to himself "Laughing so hard she's crying" a familiar voice echoed from the forest, Mattheo sat up quickly and looked around. "Sorry didn't mean to scare ya" They sat down next to him "You...." Mattheo stuttered "You need to listen to me" Liam begged, he took advantage of Mattheo's shock and spoke quickly "I was under a spell, my body wasn't my own and she told me to. She said I had to" he pleaded with Mattheo.

"Okay" Mattheo whispered "Okay?" Liam repeated in shock "Yes I believe you" Mattheo shrugged "She wanted to die, so she did" Mattheo tried not to choke up.
"Look mate, I'm sorry about everything" Liam pulled Mattheo into a hug and Mattheo hugged him back. "I have to leave, but really" Liam paused "I'm so, so sorry" Mattheo nodded.
And with that he was gone, disappearing into the darkness of the trees.

Mattheo pulled himself up and started toward the camp.

Some pots and pans clattered in the kitchen as he entered the camp, Theo and Pansy were setting the table and Draco sat grumpily in one of the seats.
"You know you could actually fucking help instead of sitting there like that" Theo barked. His usual fun, sarcastic self had disappeared completely since Lilli passed.
"Fuck off" Draco grumbled back "Oi, don't be a prick. At least Theo's doing something" Pansy snapped at him "Oh shut the fuck up! Both of you" Draco growled, Theo dropped the plate he was holding and took a step toward Draco.

"YOU'RE NOT EVEN UPSET SHE'S DEAD, YOUR ACTING LIKE NOTHING FUCKING HAPPENED! MERLIN DID YOU EVEN LOVE HER?" He screamed at both of them slamming his hands on the table.

Theo's face dropped and he stared silently at the other boy. "Draco..." Pansy spoke gently, she tried to put a hand on Draco's shoulder but he pushed her off harshly. "Don't fucking touch her" Theo shoved him backward. An evil smile creeped up on Dracos face "You don't care she's dead, you don't care at all, because you were jealous of her and Mattheo and now you don't have to see them together anymore" Draco hissed.
"DRACO!" Pansy shouted at him. But before she could finish, Theo's fist connected with Dracos nose "THEO!" Pansy screamed "BOTH OF YOU STOP" She screeched.
"Shut up Pansy" Draco tutted "Acting like you are mother".
"I am falling apart every day. Every day I have to wake up without her and try be strong for us, all of us!" She shouted at him through a stream of tears "All I want, is to go home to my parents and get away from this stupid fucking war. But I'm here with YOU!" She sobbed "BECAUSE FAMILY STICK TOGETHER"

After watching everything unfold Mattheo stepped in "Look mate, I think you should back off for a bit" he whispered into Dracos ear.

Draco looked around at what he had caused, Pansy was crying uncontrollably in Theo's arms and there were pieces of broken plate scattered all over the floor. But even after realising what he had done, he continued. "Don't even get me started on you" Draco hissed "You're the reason she's dead. Congratulations you achieved your goal, you did what your daddy wanted, you killed her and you killed all of us in the process" Mattheo's eyes darkened and he launched himself onto Draco, they tumbled to the floor and Mattheo held a knife to Dracos neck. The cold metal almost made him shiver as it pressed against his throat.
"Oh ye, go on, kill me" Draco egged him on, Mattheos eyes glassed over and his vision was blurry from his tears.

Why was nobody stopping him? Why hadn't anyone pulled him away yet. Thoughts raced through his mind.

"Oh ye that's right, Mr.Cold hearted killer can't kill anymore because some girl wouldn't want him to" Draco spat sarcastically.

"That's enough" Blaise's deep voice caught everyone attention "Get off him" he ordered and Mattheo obeyed. "I'm sick of this shit. Everyone just go to your tents" he balanced himself on the hard wooden table. Everyone listened and slunk off to their tents. Everyone except Enzo.
Enzo rubbed Blaise's back "It'll get better" he spoke quietly, Blaise shook his head "I don't think it will" he sighed "We're falling apart without her".
