I shift in my place and stretch my arms half awake. Accidentally, I hit something hard and cold. I open my eyes immediately. A sigh of relief leaves my lips as I see Bucky next to me with his left arm extended to my side of the bed. He is sleeping on his right side, towards me.

He is still so beautiful. He looks relaxed, not tense like before. I want to touch him so bad and make sure that he isn't just in my imagination, but I shouldn't. Last night that didn't go well. What have they done to you, baby?

He breathes in and turns to his back, but I continue to look at him. He opens his eyes slowly and then turns to me again.

"Good morning" I smile

"Good morning" he smiles back.

He scans my face for a moment
"Morning view..." he whispers without losing his smile

"What?"

"In some letters I guess I wrote about my favorite morning view, the first thing I see when I wake up. Now I see why..." he answers and looks to regret it almost immediately. "Not that you weren't as good before--" he almost panics. "Fuck. I'm just trying to say you're really pretty" he finishes.

"Thank you" I reply laughing and blushing.

"And, oh my God, you're even prettier when you blush like that. Do you always do that when someone compliments you?"

"Mostly when you do it" I answer.

He brings his right hand to my face and puts my hair behind my ear. I rest my hand on his left arm. I can feel the metal under his thin t-shirt.

"When did that happen?" I ask

"I think it happened when I fell. I have some glimpses from that day and then I woke up with this" he answers looking at his arm.

I nod.

"I'm sorry about what I did last night" he keeps his eyes away

"Don't think about that now, ok? Think about..." I pause to think of something. "What you want for breakfast?"

"Oh, I don't know"

"Come on, I can do and find whatever you want. Whatever you missed most"

"You don't have to--"

"I want to" I interrupt him.

"Maybe you can remind me of whatever I liked back then..." he suggests

"Sure. Pancakes, eggs and bacon"

"Ok. I can help"

"No. Go for a shower to freshen up and I'll have everything ready by then. I'm guessing the arm is waterproof, right?"

"It is" he chuckles

"Great. There are clean towels in the bathroom and I believe the duffle bag you brought is still on the couch"

He smiles again "Thank you"

"You're very welcome".

We both get out of bed, he heads to the bathroom and I head to the kitchen.

I am finishing up pancakes by the time he comes out with fresh clothes and wet hair. Fuck, he's hot.

"Let me take over and you go for a shower" he suggests

"The bacon is half cooked and I was about to start the eggs. You can handle that?" I ask

"I may not remember much but I lived alone during the last year, doll. I relearned how to cook for myself" he explains.

Doll...

I shake it off quickly and I move on.

I am too lazy to wash my hair so I put them up with a clammer and I jump in the shower. I finish in about 10 minutes and put our dirty clothes in the washer before returning.

As soon as I open the door, the smell of freshly cooked bacon reaches my nostrils. "Now I'm starving" I say as I join Bucky in the kitchen

"Sit" he replies.

I take a moment and I look at him as he finishes breakfast. Besides the hair, everything looks like they used to 70 years ago. He is making me breakfast and I want to walk up and kiss him.

I swallow the knot in my throat and I take a seat. He sits too besides me.

"So, you take one pancake, you put a few drops of syrup, eggs, bacon, cheese and you close it with another pancake" I guide him through it

"I'm going to be honest this doesn't sound appetizing. Syrup and eggs..." he says but follows my instructions into making it

"That's exactly what you said the first time I made it for you. But it is delicious and you loved it. They are actually selling it now" I explain

"Ok, I'll give it a try" he says and I smile satisfied.

We take the first bite of our sandwiches together and I wait for his reaction.
"Mhm..." he sounds as he chews and looks at his sandwich in disbelief

"Told you" I point out and I continue to eat. He seems to like the same things he used to and I think that's a good sign.

When I finished, I took my plate to the sink while Bucky went in for a second breakfast sandwich. He hesitated at first but I convinced him I was full so he'd take it.

"Are you sure this is a safe place to stay?" he asks as he brings me his plate

"Honestly? No" I answer

"Then why are you still here?"

"Because I thought that if you, for some reason, decided you didn't want to be alone anymore, you'd know where to find me" I explain.

"So, you're ok with leaving and going somewhere else?" he suggests

"What do you have in mind?"

"I was thinking of returning to Bucharest, but I wouldn't want to leave alone. This is kinda nice".

I turn the running water off and I turn my body towards Bucky. "Are you sure you want me to come with you? No offense but you practically know me for less than 2 days" I remind him

"I know that I don't want to be alone anymore and I really enjoy being around you".

I have literally nothing to hold me back in New York now that he is here. If it wasn't for Bucky, I'd be back in Norway by myself again. Maybe this change is a good thing.

"When are we leaving?" I ask, agreeing to his proposal.

He smiles and wraps his arms around me. I hug him back and I close my eyes. I don't want this to be a dream...

Steve is going to hate me even more now, but it's worth it. We have the option of running away and we don't have to play heroes. No hero is happy.
