The Roadtrip
It is now the tail end of Mama's pregnancy. It's the middle of February and she is not the only one who wants the baby out of her.
"Bubs!" Mama yelled to me
"What!" I yelled back, I was doing school work
"I am hungry!" She said
"What do you want?" I asked
"Ice cream!" She said
"Why do I even ask." I got up and going her ice cream. I walked up to her and daddy's room at grandmas house
"Thanks bubs" she smiled and took it from me.
"Your welcome, do you want me to work up here with you?" I asked
She nodded happily. I went downstairs and brought my work up to her room and sat on the bed
"What you working on?" She asked me
"Anatomy and physiology." I said
"Yup, can't help you there!" She giggled
"And this chapter is on how he is getting out of you." I giggled
"Why don't you tell me, I need some catching up to do with him!" She giggled also
"All I can say is get the drugs!" I laughed and Mama started dying laughing.
"Why do you say that?!" Mama asked
"It's gonna hurt. ALOT!" I said
"I did it with you!" She sassed
"I know!" I smiled. Mama leaned back
"What time is your doctors appointment?" I asked her
"Soon, it's right around lunch... Like 12:30" mama said
"Oh okay." I said
"Why?" She asked
"Just wondering." I answered
"Okay" she said
"Hey guys." Daddy walked in
"Hi baby." Mama said. He sat next to her and kissed her. She kissed him back.
"Ugh." I said. Mama hit my back
"OW! What was that for?" I asked
"Put a sock in it Bubs! We can show affection for each other if we want to!" Mama sassed
"That doesn't mean you hit." I rubbed my back. Mama rolled her eyes and kissed daddy again,
Daddy laughed at us. Mama curled into him
"Let me see that." Mama said taking my text book from my lap. I giggled and let her read it. She grimaced big time
"What mama?" I tried not to laugh
"How does that not make you sick." She rubbed her belly
"I want to be a nurse, remember?" I said
"Yeah, but still." She handed my book back
"Hey, your the one pushing the bowling ball out of you" I giggled
"You were a bowling ball too." She sassed
"Yup!" I said proudly
"We gotta get going baby." Daddy said
"Okay" she said
"You wanna come bubs?" Mama asked
"I would but, I need to finish this." I answered
"Okay, have fun learning about how babies are born!" She joked
"Have fun making a baby." I smiled and daddy helped her up. They walked downstairs
A few hours later... Mama and daddy came home. I was watching tv with grandma
"Hi bubs!" Mama said and plopped down next to me
"Hey Mama."'I said
"How was learning about how babies are born?" She asked
"Interesting." I answered
"Narvel?" Mama said
"Yeah baby?" He said
"We have a lot to figure out now." She said
"What do you mean?" I asked
"Well the doctor said I can go back to Vegas but I can't fly." She said
"Then how are you getting there?" I asked
"Your going to drive!" Mama said
I pulled out my phone to see how long of a drive it is. My eyes went big.
"Mama that's an 18 hour drive!" I said
"Yeah? So?" She said
"What about Daddy?" I asked
"He has to get back to work, he's flying" she said
"Baby I'll be in Nashville. He told me
"So I have to drive 18 hours just you and me?!" I said nervous
"And Grandma." She said
"Okay" I said worried
"I'm going to have your car shipped out her so it makes it a little easier on you." Daddy said
"What if something where to happen?!" I asked frantic
"Sweetheart don't think like that. if we honestly thought you couldn't do it, we wouldn't have you do it." He said
"What about the baby and mama and car accidents! It's scary!" I cried
"Baby look at me." He said. I looked at him
"You can do this." He kissed my cheek. I started crying and he hugged me tight. I looked to mama scared, She heaved herself off the couch and waddled over to us
"Mama?" I asked
"Yeah baby?" She said
"When are we leaving?" I asked
"In a couple of days." She hugged me but the belly got in the way
"You get in the way of everything!" I whined speaking to the belly
"Sorry baby." Mama said
"I can't wait till he's here" I said
"Me too!" She cooed
"How much longer?" I asked rubbing her belly
"How much longer?" I asked rubbing her belly
"Not much." She smiles and I kissed her belly
"This all your fault by the way." I told the belly and he kicked my face
"Ow!" I said
"Be nice Shelby!" Mama said
"Are you guys sure about this?" I asked
"Positive" they said. I nodded my head
"We better get packing" I said
"Grandma your coming with us right?" I asked
"Yup!" She said
"Yay!" I said excitedly. She smiled at me
"Love you." I smiled
"Love you" she said
Mama smothered me in kissed and I laughed
"Hows he cooking in there?" I rubbed mamas belly
"I want him out!" She said
"I know you do Mama." I smiled. Mama placed a hand on mine
"I'm a whale!" She whined
"Your my whale mama" I smiled. She gave me a pouted face
"Soon Enough you'll be back to your normal self!" I said
"And I can hug you without you getting beaten up." She said
"Yup!" I smiled and giggled
"I finished all of the school work my teachers gave me." I said
"Good girl!" She said and I smiled. She kissed my head
"I'm hungry." I said
"What would you like?" Mama said getting up
"I don't know." I shrugged
"Ice cream?" She said
"I guess." I said
"No, tell me what you want" she said
"Mama I don't know what I want." I told her. Mama got frustrated
"Sorry." I said and Mama was still mad
"Mama I'll have ice cream." I said
She got up and got the ice cream.
"Thank you." I said. She nodded and I ate the ice cream. She watched me
"Why are you watching me?" I asked
"Your cute!" She cooed
"Thanks." I smiled
She smiled and kissed my head. Her belly hit my face
"Oh! Sorry bubs!" She said
"He gets in the way of everything." I said
"I know honey" she said
I pouted my lower lip out. Mama kissed me
"I love you." she said
"I love you" I said and smiles. She smiled at me
A few days later...
"Mama you ready to go?" I asked
"Not yet!" She huffed
"What's wrong?" I asked walking into the room
"I'm going to miss Narvel." She said
"Aw! Mama, it's okay!" I tried to coax
"I won't see him for a week." She said sadly
"I know mommy" i said
"I'm all packed up." I told her
"Okay" she said. I could tell that she was really going to miss daddy. They don't like being away from each other
"Baby?" Daddy walked in
"Hey daddy." I said
"Hi honey" he said
"Hi." Mama said sadly
"Baby I don't want to go!" He said rubbing her back
"You have to." She mumbled
"What if I take time off work?" He said
"Your going to do that when he gets here." She said
"I know" he said. He rubbed her belly. She smiled
"Someone help me downstairs." Mama said
Daddy helped her. When we got down stairs I saw my car in the drive way
"My car!" I said happily
"I told you I was getting it shipped out here." Daddy giggled. I smiled and hugged him tight. He kissed the top of my head
"Thanks Baby." He said and I smiled
"When are we leaving?" I asked
"When your ready" she said
"Seeing as how is 5:45, can we leave tomorrow morning? We can say goodbye to the family tonight." I said
"Okie dokie" she smiled
"Daddy when do you fly out?" I asked
"Tomorrow morning" he said
Mama became teary eyed
"Aw honey, don't cry!" He held her tight
"I'm going to miss you." She said choked up
"I know, I am gonna miss you more!" He said
"Not possible." She said
He kissed her and she kissed him back I watched them
"I love you." Mama said
"I love you" daddy said
They kissed again and I giggled
"What's so funny cutie?" Mama asked
"You guys are so cute!" I smiled
"Awe!" She cooed
Mama hugged me tight and kissed my cheek I held her tight. Shelby went crazy, he likes to beat me up
"Calm down baby, I'll stop" she said
"That's not fair." I pouted
"I know baby." She said
"He's already stealing you from me." I said sadly
"No he's not" she said
"I can't even hug you." I said sadly
Mama rubbed her back
"I'm sorry baby." She frowned and
I sighed. I put my hand on her belly and Mama smiled. She put her hand on my. I got up
"Where you going?" She asked
"I don't know" I said
"I'm really nervous about the drive." I said
"Honey, don't be" she said. I looked at her worried
"Honey, calm down!" She coaxed
"Your going to do great baby." Daddy kissed my forehead and I smiled weakly. Mama kissed my cheek reassuringly.
"Im gonna go out side" I said.
I went on the swings and thought for a long time Grandma came outside
"Hi grandma" I said
"Just thinking" I said swinging
"About?" She asked
"Everything" I said
"Wanna talk about it?" She asked
"What if they forget about me? When Shelby comes I am gonna be so unnoticeable... And the drive home." I said
"Sweetheart they are not going to forget about you, and if they start Gloria and I will set them straight, and I know the drive is worrying you." She said
"Grandma... They think because I am older that I am strong, and tough and able to handle all of this... It's hard, and they can't even tell that I am struggling" I said
"baby they do see it." She said
"They don't" I sighed
"Sweetie you know how you went to bed last night and the three of us were up talking?" She said and I nodded
"We were talking about how they can help you and how guilty they feel." She said
"They are gonna have Shelby and completely forget about me" I said
"That's not going to happen, I'm not going to let that happen I promise." She said
"What if it does.." I cried
"I won't." She said but I wasn't convinced
"I just don't know how to feel. Everyone wants me to feel happy about the baby and I feel bad if I don't but I mean this baby is taking me from my mama. I'm so excited about meeting him, but I still need my mama and daddy." I teared up
Grandma rubbed my back, mama was standing in the door way rubbing her stomach, I didn't notice her
"Wanna go inside?" Grandma asked
"You can, I think I'll stay out here for a little bit longer, I still need time to think" I said
"Baby it's cold and getting dark." She said
"I know, I'll come in soon" I said
"Okay." She said. I kept swinging and looking at my feet. I started to get cold so I want inside. I went to my room and say on my bed I got into my pjs and watched Netflix. Where was a knock on my door
"Come in" I said
"Dinners ready." Grandma said
"Im not hungry" I said
"Everyone is here and they want to see you." She said
"I don't want to!" I cried and She glared at me
"What!" I said
"Down stairs now." She ordered and I went down stair. I was in my Pjs and messy hair.
"Hi" I said
"Hey pretty girl." Aunt Alice cooed
"I look like crap" I said
"Your still my pretty girl." She pulled me close and kissed my temple and I smiled
"I'm going to miss you." She said
"You guys are like my back ups, and your so far away from me!" I cried
She hugged me tight I held on to her tightly, this was one of the first times I was hugging someone who's stomach didn't kick me every time I hug them. She rubbed my back and I smiled
"I love you." I told her
"I love you more!" She cooed
I looked at Mama. We wasn't looking at me. We all sat down at the table and I sat next to my two aunts. Mama sat across from me. I didn't look at her at first
"What's going on with you two?" Daddy asked
"Nothing." Mama said
I held alice and Susie's hands under the table. Grandma said the blessing and we all started eating. I ate, never looking across the table
"Baby what time do you want to leave tomorrow?" Mama asked me
Without looking at her I said
"7:00"
"What's wrong?" She asked
"Nothing" I said quitely
"Mmhmm." She said
"Can I be excused?" I asked. pushing my chair out.
"No." Grandma said
"Please" I asked getting up
"Sit." She ordered
"Why" I asked
"Because you need to spend time with your family." She said
"Im tired" I said
"Sit." She ordered again
"Ugh!!!" I said and sat down, I was on the verge of tears. Aunt Alice rubbed my back I leaned into her and she kissed my temple. I closed my eyes and laid my head on her shoulder
"Sweetheart." Mama said
I just blocked her out, I was feeling neglected already.
"Bubs?" Daddy asked. I didn't answer, I just buried my head into Alice's shoulder
"What's wrong?" Mama asked. I just wanted to run upstairs.
"Nothing." I mumble. I pushed my chair out again.
"May I be excused?" I asked again
"Not yet." Grandma said
I started crying, I couldn't take it. I just ran out of the room without thinking. I ran up to my room and closed the door. I hid under the covers and cried. Mama knocked on my door
"Go away!" I said sniffling
"Baby?" She opened the door. I laid flat as a board under the bed covers
"I know your under the covers." She said next to me and pulled the covers back. I pulled them back over my head
"Bubs please." She said
"Mama it hurts to much" I said turning the other way
"What hurts baby?" She asked
"You"I said quietly
Her heart shattered I cried silently
"I'm sorry." She said choked up. I sniffles loudly by accident.
"Sweetheart I love you." She said
I just cried harder, I whipped the blanket up.
"Are you hearing yourself right now?!" I said
"Yes." She said
"You love Shelby... Your life is based around Shelby right now, im just here to drive you places and try to be the best of my abilities, it's hard!" I cried She hugged me tight. I didn't hug her back.
"Its not fair Mama." I cried
"What's not fair?" She asked
"I can't even hug you anymore." I cried. Mama was getting tired of me whining about that.
"I just want you back." I admitted
"Honey, you'll have me back soon enough" sh said
"Mama when he gets here it's all going to be about him and the residency. What are you gonna do about me?" I asked
"What do you mean?" She asked
"Nevermind" I said
"Baby we will not forget you for a second. I promise." She said
"You say that now" she said
"Excuse me?" She said
"Im fine" I said
"No your not." She said
"Yes I am!" I yelled. Daddy ran into the room. I sighed
"See, I can't do anything right.." I said
"What's going on?"
"Nothing, my life's peachy" I said and walked out
"Halt!" Mama ordered. I stopped walking.
"Turn around." She said I didn't
"Do it." She ordered
I didn't like her tone. But i did it anyways. I turned around and faced her
"Come sit please." She said
"No, I am fine where I am." I said
"What can we do to prove that we won't forget about you?" She asked
I shrugged, she sighed and I looked at my feet, She started crying
"Why are you crying?!" I asked
"My daughter thinks I don't love her and that I could actually forget about her."
"It's true!" I said. She completely broke down. I walked over to her and wrapped my arms around her neck. She cried into me
"I'm sorry mama." I ran my fingers through her hair. She sniffles
"I love you." I said
"I love you to" she said
She wrapped her arms around me and never wanted to let go. I held her tight. She is my best friend and the thought of losing her scares me to death. I didn't want to loose her to Shelby. I started tearing up and Daddy saw. I laid my cheek on the top of her head, Mama kissed my arm
"I can't lose you." I mumbled
Mama cried harder, So did I. She rubbed my back
"Please don't let me lose you." I cried
"Oh honey, you will never loose me!" She said
"Promise?" I asked
"With all my heart" she said I nodded my head
"Come back downstairs" she begged
"Okay." I said
They went back downstairs. I followed them
"We got her out" mama said
"Good job." Grandma said and mama smiled. I sat down in my seat
"What time is it?" I asked
"Um... Im not sure" Mama said
"it's 8:45." Daddy said
Mama got teary eyed and held onto daddy tight
"What's wrong baby?" Grandma asked mama
"I don't want to leave him! I want him to take time off and to stay with me!" She cried
"Baby it will only be a couple of days." She said
"I know so why can't he take them off!" She said
"Babe you know why." Daddy said and pulled her into his lap
"Please!" She begged
"Sweetheart, I wouldn't go if I didn't have too." He said
"So your just gonna leave your very pregnant wife in a car with her daughter and mother got 18 whole hours!!!!!" Mama said irritated
"Baby when the meetings was set up, we thought that we would be here still." He said
"Just move the meetings! Is work really more important than me!" She said
"Of course not! I have tried to move them but I can't." He said
"I hate you!" She said and waddled out of the room not meaning it, she was just frustrated. He know that she didn't mean it
"I got her." I said. She was crying out on the porch swing
"Hey Mama." I said
She sniffled
"Hi" She said and I sat next to her. She held my hand
"You okay?" I asked. She shook her head 'no'
"What's wrong?" I said
"I want Narvel in the car with me, I want him to rub my belly when Shelby kicks, I want him to kiss me and for him to hold my hand the whole way" she cried
"Oh." I said. She nodded
"I heard him try to change the meetings today." I told her
"I don't care if he tried, when he moves them, then I'll be happy. But until then I am not happy because he still has to leave." She said
"Mama what If he pushes them back and you go into labor and he's not with you?" I said
"What if he pushed them back till after the baby is born?! It's not rocket science Bubs!" She said frustrated
"Mama." I said
"What!" She said. Daddy walked outside
"Ugh" she said
"I'm sorry baby." He said sitting on his knees in front of her
"I want you with me not home." She said
"I know baby I want to be with you." He rubbed her belly and Mama sighed
"Your leaving me aren't you" she looked at her feet and the tears slipped
"Let me try Scott one more time." He said
"Okay" she sighed
He called Scott
Mama watched as he talked to him, she was rubbing her stomach Her stomach was huge! I kept staring at it
"What are you lookin at bubs?!" She said
"Your stomach." I answered
"Why?" She asked
"He is so big." I said
"Trust me I know" she said and daddy walks back over
"What'd he say?" Mama asked
"Looks like I'm going with you, Bubs your still driving." He smiled
"REALLY!" Mama said getting up in tears, she was so happy
"Yes baby." He said
Mama kissed him deeply and he kissed her back. She wrapped her arms around his. neck and smiled at him
"Bubs your still driving." He said
"What do you mean I'm still driving?" I asked
"I mean what I said" he said
"UGH!" I huffed
"Why don't you wanna drive?" Mama asked
"It's 18 hours." I said
"we can switch off, you me and grandma" he said
"Grandma doesn't want to drive and she won't let you drive." I pointed to Mama. Mama held him tighter.
"Sorry bubs, that's your problem." He said
"I'm going inside." I huffed. Mama and daddy just held each other
I sat on the couch. I turned on the tv and pulled on a blanket. Aunt Susie sat next to me and snuggled into her. She smiled and held me close
"I don't want to leave." I said
"I don't want you to leave either honey" she said
"It's only going to be about the baby and the residency." I said
She rubbed my back and held me tighter
"You have my number if you need ANYTHING!" She whispered in my ear
"Thank you." I nodded
She kissed my head and laid her head on mine. Mama and daddy walked in. They saw us on the couch
"Mama." My mama said
"Yes?" Grandma said
"Narvel is coming with us." She said excitedly
"That's great news!" She said
"No it's not." I said quitely so only aunt Susie cold hear me. Susie looked down at me and said
"Why don't me and you go up stairs and we can talk" she whispered
I nodded my head and we went upstairs and Aunt Alice came with is
We sat in a small circle on my bed.
"What was that about downstairs?" Aunt Susie asked me
"I'm still going to have to do all the driving because Mama won't let him drive." I said
"I can see what I can do, what if he drove and she sat in the passenger seat? So that way he could hold her hand and all that jazz, and you and grandma could be in the back?" Alice said
"Daddy had my car shipped her for this drive and Mama wants him to rub her belly and kiss her." I grimaced
"There the adults here! They should be the ones driving not you!" They said
"I know, mama can't fit behind the wheel anymore. Grandma doesn't want to which is understandable and Mama won't let daddy leave her." I said
"Im making Your momma let Narvel drive, it's not always about her, she has a daughter who doesn't want to drive 18 HOURS in a car" Aunt Alice said and got up. I grabbed her hand before she could leave.
"Don't, she will only get mad at me and it will get ugly." I looked into her eyes
"Honey, she needs to hear it from another adult!" She said
"She'll know that is from me." I said
"No she won't, I'll take all the blame." She said
"Aunt Alice she's knows everything, she'll see right through it." I told her
"Avia, your scared of her. You need to be a big girl and tell her how you feel!" She said
"Of course i'm scared of her. And she already knows." I said
"She needs to know that Narvel should be driving." She said. Mama walked in all happy and not going what's going on. I looked at Aunt Alice mouthed
"Please don't."
"Avia I won't let you hurt, she needs to know." She said
"I'm fine." I said
"Liar" she said, she got up and walked out walking right passed Reba.
"Aunt Alice!" I said
"What's wrong?" Mama asked she. just ignored me and went downstairs. I went down stairs to her and said
"You can tell her." She didn't hesitate
"Narvel should be the one driving! Not your daughter who is scarred half to death about it! Narvels been driving for a long time now and he knows what he's doing!" She said
"She's driving. End of story." Mama said
"Reba, do you hear yourself right now! Your being selfish!" She said
"It's not like I can drive anyway." She sasses
"Why can't Narvel drive and you be in the passenger seat?!" She said
"Guys it's fine." I said getting in the middle of them
"Avia it's not fine!!! Your mother is being uptight and selfish, that baby sure has changed you..." Alice said to Reba
"AUNT ALICE!" I said
"It need to be said" she said. Mama started crying and I hugged her and Aunt Alice sighed
"Let it out Mama." I rubbed her back
She cried and i looked at Aunt Alice
She was looking at her feet, she was so mad I turned on her and went to mom instead of backing her up. Aunt Alice turned around and walked out.
"Aunt Susie can you take her so I can talk to Aunt Alice?" I asked
"Sure" she said. I walked down stairs and hugged her
"She's so uptight! And selfish and all she cares about is that baby!!! She's changed so much! She would do anything to make you comfortable when she wasn't pregnant, now you don't even have a word in the say" she said
"Shh shh I know." I rubbed her back. She sighed, she was so mad
"I don't want her to get to upset, the baby can't handle it." I told her
"I need to cool off." She said and walked outside. I followed her. She sat on the porch swing. I sat in the chair across from her
"She makes me so mad!" She said
"She's not trying to." I said
"It's just not fair to you" she said
"I know, but I'm more concerned about her and the baby right now." I said
"I don't know why" she said
"I know what can go wrong." I said. Alice just stayed quiet
"That's why I didn't want to make a big deal out of the drive." I said
"Oh" she said
"Thank you for sticking up for me." I smiled
"Anytime munchkin" she smiled
"I love you" I said
"Love you" she said
"Can you apologize to Mama?" I asked
"Not right now" she said
"Please, we leave in the morning." I begged
"Maybe later" she sighed. She hugged me
Everyone poured out of the house, it was getting late and we had a LONG couple of days a head of us
"Hi guys" I said
"What's up?" I asked
"Everyone is leaving so we can get ready for tomorrow." She said
"Aw, okay" I said sadly. Aunt Alice hugged me tighter andI held on to her real tight. I teared up
"Honey, don't cry. You have my number on speed dial if you need anything anything at all" she said
"I know I'm just going you miss yall so much." I choked out
"I know baby" she said
I got up and let we stand up. She didn't want to leave its not fair that we have to leave so soon. Everyone left and I went to bed
The next day...
Mama woke me up at 6:300
"Baby wake up." She rubbed my back. I woke up and rubbed my eyes
"Morning pretty girl." She smiled
"Mornin" I said and rolled out of bed, I got dressed and ready to go.
I was in Ryan's big sweatshirt and sweatpants. I was gonna live off of his clothes for the next few days. I practically sleep walked to the couch and plopped on the couch
"No no no, come on we have to leave now, the cars packed" she said
"Mama ten more minutes please.." I said
"No honey, we have to leave" she said
"Mama!" I whined
"Come on Avia!" She said
"Mama please." I begged she tried to pulled me up
"Where are my keys?" I asked
Mama handed them to me. I got into the drivers and someone had moved everything around. I as I was. changing everything back, Mama kept smiling at me.
"What?" I asked
"You are just so cute! I remember when you were three years old, sitting in your little car seat and you would play with your little steering wheel and you would say "beep, beep." She pushed my cheeks together and said "Come on say it one more time for Mama."
"Beep,beep." I said
"Thank you thanks you I love you." She patted my cheek and I smiled at her
"there are rules for this car ride." I said. Mama huffed
"What?" She asked
"No making out, and I control the radio." I said
"No no no, we can make out if we want to!" Mama said and kissed daddy
"It's my Car and I'm driving." I said
"To bad, I birthed you" she said
"Mama I'm serous." I said
"It's not fair!!!" She whined
"How is it not fair to you?" I asked
Mom just leaned back and looked out the window.
"Fine you can kiss." I gave in
"No... It's your rules.." She said rubbing her stomach and looking out the window still
"I know that's why I changed the rule." I said
"We're fine just drive home" mama said and closed her eyes. I started driving. I was not looking forward to this. Mama fell asleep and so did daddy and grandma. I couldn't stop yawning. I just keep driving. A few hours later Mama wakes up
"We home yet." She said
"Mama were still in Oklahoma." I said
"Wake me up when we get home" she said and Daddy woke up
"Ugh" he said
"What baby.' Mama said
"I wanna be home" he said
"You and me both." I said
"Ugh" he said again
"The baby is kicking." Mama said
"I wanna feel!" Daddy said. She put his hand on her belly
"Hi baby!" He said. Mama giggled. I was so upset
"He's so cute" she said
All I wanted to was snuggle with Mama and I had to drive. This sucks
Mama placed a hand on daddy's and He kissed her cheek. She laid her head on his chest and closed her eyes. My eyes were watering. No one saw
"Guys I'm stopping at the rest stop ahead." I said
"Ugh! Can't we just keep driving!" They groaned
"I haven't eaten all morning and I need coffee." I said. They didn't want to stop. I got off of the highway and pulled into the parking lot. Mama and daddy didn't move.
"I have to pee, like I always do because of the baby" Mama said
"Do you guys want anything? Im going to try to drive as much I can before I stop again, so if you need anything is get it now." I said
"Come on Mama." I got out of the car and helped her out. She waddled to the laddies room. I got food and coffee. Mama came back out a few minutes later
"How you feeling?" She asked me
I shrugged
"Baby." She said
"What" I said
"Thank you for doing all of this. I love you." She kissed my cheek and I smiled
"I know it's not fair to you and that daddy and I weren't making it any easier." She said
"No you weren't" I said
"Sweetheart I'm sorry." She said
"I know." I said
"Sorry for not letting you eat before." She said feeling like a bad mom
"Don't worry about it" I smiled
"Baby I'm always going to worry about you. It's my job." She said and I smiled
"Ready?" I asked
"Yup!" She said
We walked back to the car. She got in. Then I got back in. We started driving again
"Baby how much longer are we in Oklahoma for?" Mama asked
"We are on the border. We still have about 14 hours." I said. They sighed
"New rule." I said
"What now" they grunted
"No more complaining about the drive, if anything I should be the one complaining." I said
"That's no fair! Im pregnant and smushed into the back seat! I will complain if I want to!" She said sternly
"Then switch with Grandma." I said
"No" she said
"No backseat driving either." I said
"Shut up and drive!!" Mama and daddy said
"Stop yelling at me all the freaking time! I can't do anything right!" I said
"Avia just shut your pie hole and freaking drive!!!!" Mama said. I just started crying
"Oh my god..." Mama rolled her eyes
"You stop it!" She said
"Reba." Grandma said annoyed at Mamas behavior
"Ugh! I hate everyone." She said and looked out the window. My phone started ringing through the blue tooth in my car
"Hey Brandon!" I said
"Hey sissy!" He said
"Mom, dad, and grandma are here to." I said
"Hi guys!" He yelled
"Hi baby." Mama said
"What are you guys up to?" She said
"We are on our to Vegas for Kelly's show tomorrow night." He said
"Fun!" She said
"Bubs?" He asked
"Yea" I said
"You okay? I'm concerned after the text you sent me." He said
"Which text?" I asked
"The one where you feel like you can't do anything right anymore." He said
"Oh..." I said
"Bubs what's he talking about?" Mama said
"Nothing.." I said
"Brandon what are you talking about?" She asked. I hung up on him.He called back and I kept hanging up
"Avia!" Mama said. I turned my phone off and kept driving
"Just tell what the hell is going on with you." Mama said
"It's nothing, that's what the hells going on!" I said
"Avia please tell me."
She begged, I just kept driving. Mama started crying. I leaned my head on the window
"I'm sorry Mama." I said
She didn't reply. I couldn't believe how oblivious they were being. Mama rolled her eyes.
"Mama I love you." I said
She said nothing, Grandma held my free hand into her hers. She could tell I was hurt
"Just drive bubs" Grandma said rubbing her thumb over my hand
"It's hard." I whispered
"Shh I know baby" she said
I started crying. she kissed my cheek
"Daddy can you drive please?" I asked. He looked to mama, Mama nodded her head no
"No" he said
I cried harder, I just wanted to snuggle with my mama and rub her belly But instead of me doing that, it was daddy. Grandma held my hand tight. I just kept driving My phone rang again, it was my sister Chass
"Hello?" I answered
"Aunt Via!" Jadyn yelled
"Jadyn!"I smiled
"Hi!" She said cutely
"What's up butter cup?" I asked
"I miss you guys." She said sadly
"I miss you too cutie!" I said
"Hi Jadyn." Mama and daddy cooed. I tried to ignore them
"So how you been baby?" I asked
"Hi grandma and Grandad!" She said excitedly. I sighed and stopped talking, I just kept driving.
"Aunt Via?" She asked. I stayed quiet
"I love you!" She said cutely
"Love you" I said quietly
"Baby I'm driving right now, and Grandma Jackie is here too." I told her
"Oh, hi grandma Jackie"
"Hey baby" She said
"How is everyone?" She asked
"There's good." She said
"Did grandma have the baby yet?!" She Asked
"Not yet darlin." Mama said
"I want him out!" Jadyn sassed
"Trust me, I do too." Mama giggled
"Well, Savannah's here... She wants to say hi, you know being the big older sister she is" she said sarcastically
"Baby, she's your cousin." Daddy said
"I know but she acts like my mother!" She giggled. We all laughed and Savannah came on.
"I do not!" She said
"Hi Vannah!" Mama said
"Hi grandma! How's Shelby cookin in there?!" She asked
"He's making Grandma the size of a whale." She said Savannah started laughing.
"It will all pay off in the long run" she said
"Yes it will, are you going to Vegas with Kelly and Daddy?" She asked
"Nope, I'm staying with chass" she said
"Awe we miss you guys." I said
"Maybe we'll come down when Shelbys born" she said
"Yeah!" Mama said
"We have to go, I'll talk to you guys later!" She said
"I love you." I said
"Aunt Via?!"she said, she hadn't noticed she was in the car
"Yes." I said
"When did you get there?! How come you didn't talk?" She asked
"I have been here the entire time and I didn't want to interrupt." I said
"Oh!" She said
"Yeah!" I said

"Can you put Aunt Chass on?" I asked
"Yup!" She said and put chass on

"When are you coming to see me?" I asked

"Yeah." I sighed

"Hold on mama, im talking to to Via" she said
"Chass it can wait, talk to mama." I said
"Avia grace! I'm talking to you! Now go!" She said
"I just need my sister with me." I said choked up
"Oh honey! Where are you guys right now?" She asked
"On the boarder of Oklahoma and New Mexico." I said
"Hey! We are in New Mexico on vacation!" She said
"We have to drive to Vegas, and by we I mean me." I sassed
"Why don't you stop by for a little pit stop?" She suggested
"Are you guys coming to Vegas?" I asked
"Maybe..." She said
"Really?!" I got really excited She smiled and said
"Yup! We are on are way now, we have a special someone with us..." She said
"Who?" Mama asked
"Im not tellin!" She said
"Chass can you ask mama why she isn't talking to me?" I told her
"Mama? Why aren't you talking to little one?" She asked. Mama didn't responded
"Reba" she said sternly
"I'm just preparing myself." She spat
"For what? And loose the attitude" she said
"Chass! She's pregnant" I sad
"Sorry sissy." I said sincerely
"Reba what do you have to prepare yourself for, that has to do with not talking to your daughter." She said
"For when she leaves and never wants to come back home." Mama said choked up
"Why is she gonna leave? And yes she will come back after college mama" She said
"Mama I don't leave for a while and I will come home." I said
"Just calm down and Via drive till you get to Vegas, I can't keep a secret much longer!" She said
"EVERYONE HOLD ON!" I yelled there was a huge 18 wheeler that was getting really close to me. I punched in the gas and got in the other lane Chass got nervous
"What the hell just happened!" She said
"OMG! That was scary" I said
"Hello!!!!" She said
"Well done baby." Mama said
"Everything's okay Chass." Daddy says
"Finally someone freaking answered me!" She said annoyed
"Sissy this 18 wheeler was really close behind me and speeding up, it's okay." I said
"Oh" she said
"Yeah." I said
"I will see you guys at your house" she said
"Bye love you." Mama said
"Wait!" Chass said
"What?" She asked
"Does anyone have a quest who's the surprise person is?" She said
"Ryan!" I guest
She didn't say anything....
"OMG!! ITS RYAN!" I got really excited
"You'll just have to wait and see!" She squealed
"I love you so much." I squealed
"Love you" she said
"Bubs I gotta pee!" Mama whined
"Really! You just went!" I said
"Baby that was three hours ago." She said
"Alright we'll stop." I said
"Thanks bubs" she said
I smiled. We stopped and mama went as fast as she could to the bathroom. Chass hung up and we got out and stretched,Mama came back
"This baby loves sitting on my bladder." She said and I giggled.
Mama wrapped her arms around my neck and hugged me tight
"Can daddy please drive!!" I begged
"But your doing so well." She said
"Please mama" I saidI rested my hands on the sides of her belly waiting for an answer. I looked up at her
"Yes or no?"
"Yes." She said
"Thank you" I said
"Your welcome baby." She smiles
We got back in the car.
"Bubs you sure you don't want to drive?" Daddy asked
"Positive, take us home." She said
"Sweetheart we still have 10 hours to go." He said
"Shhh... I'm gonna sleep that whole way." I said. I fell asleep on Mama. Mama fell asleep. A few hours later Mama woke up but I was still asleep
"We there yet" she asked
"Where still in New Mexico babe." He said
"I just want to be home already!" She whined and I wrapped my arms around her tighter
"Wake me when we get home" she whined and closed her eyes. Just then Shelby decided it was time to beat up mama.My head was right up against her stomach. He kicked really hard right were my head was
"OW!" I said
"What's wrong baby?" Mama said
"Stinking Shelby keeps kicking me in the head!" I said, I had been woken up and I wasn't in a good mood.
"He's just saying hi." She rubbed her belly
"I don't want him to say hi" I sassed
"Excuse me?" Mama said
"Mama... Shhh.... I'm trying to sleep." I said
"Avia Grace!" She said sternly
"Sorry Mama." I said sadly and moved to the other side of the car
I leaned on the hard window and curled up.
"Come her baby." She said
"No, he just keeps kicking me and I need some sleep!!!" I said
Then put you head on my shoulder." She said
"Im all set" I said
"Please Bubs I wanna snuggle with my daughter." She said
"No." I said
"Please?" She said choked up
"I said no!" I said with my eyes closed. Mama broke down. I hated hearing her cry, especially knowing it was because of me. I moved closer to her and kissed her cheek
I was listening to her new album.
I took out my phone and showed her
"Im listening to you" I some what yelled.
She took out my head phones and giggled. I giggled as well. She smothered me in kisses
"Please... Stop!" I giggled
"Not going to happen." She smiled
"Please!" I begged
"Fine." She said
"Bubs can you drive" daddy asked
"No" I whined
"Why not!" He said
"Because i just drove, you can drive!" She said
"Daddy how far are we from the boarder?" I asked
"We are close" he said
"I'll drive then." I saidHe pulled over and we switched. Mama kissed my cheek. I smiled and got out and started to drive.
"Love you baby!" Mama said
"Love you" she said
"Daddy did you pick a hotel for tonight?" I asked
"Don't you want to drive. Straight through?" He asked
"Seeing is how it's 8:39 and we are in New Mexico still, I don't know." I said
"Come on!" He coaxed
"Daddy it's going to be like 3 am." I said
"I'll stay up with you" he said
"I'm tired." I whiled
"You can do it!" He said
"Mama!" I whined
"I just wanna go home and be home Via, im with your dad" she said
"Grandma?" I asked
"Im not getting in the middle of this." She said
"Ugh!" I said
"Keep driving bubs!" They said
"I'm so tired." I said
"Narvel, drive" Reba said.Daddy looked at her confused
"She's tired and needs you to drive, now drive" she said
"Mama can you hand me the red bull from my purse?" I said. She handed it to me
"Thank you." I opened it and said
"I should be good for the rest of the way." I said
Mama giggled and said "Good"
"Reba is the nursery ready? It's the middle of February." Grandma asked
"Mama? Is it?" I asked
"Not yet." She mumbled quietly
"MAMA!!!!" I said
"What Bubs?" She said
"The nursery isn't ready!" I said
"Sweetheart we haven't been there to do it." She told me
"Do you want me to do it tomorrow?" I asked
"If you want" she said
"Daddy do you want to do it?" I asked
"Sure!" He said
"Okay." I smiled. I kept driving. It's the middle of the night and I am still driving. Daddy was still up and mama and grandma were asleep.
"Daddy why was it so Important for me to drive?" I asked
"Im not sure" he said
"Oh." I said
"Your doing great bubs" he said
"Thanks." I yawned and he smiled
"We're in Nevada." I said
"Yay!" Mama said
"When did you wake up?" I asked
"I've been up, Shelby is keeping me up" she said. Daddy rubbed her belly in soothing circles
"How's your back?" He asked
"It hurts from sleeping in this cramped up car." She said
"I'm sorry darlin." He said
"I just want to be home already!" She whined
"Almost there Mama." I said
"How much longer, if it's really long I need to get out and walk around, my back is killing and he hasn't let up kicking in almost an hour." She said
"It's about an hour and a half, i need to walk around a little too. Do you want me to stop now?" I asked
"Please" she said
I pulled off of the highway
"Bubs help me out." She said
I helped her out, she grabbed her back and started walking around rubbing her stomach.
"You okay?" I asked
"No" she said
"How can I help?" I asked
"Press on my lower back and Narvel, press on the middle of my back." She said
We did what she asked
"Come on Shelby, calm down!" She said
"Are you having any Braxton hicks yet?" I asked
"All the time" she said
"Ow Shelby!" She grabbed her lower stomach
"Mama?!" I asked concerned
"What?" She asked
"You okay?" I asked
"Yeah, he's goes going crazy." She said
I moved and sat on my knees in front of her
"Hi baby boy, calm down for mama" she said
He got really excited to hear my voice
"No no no, stay calm!" I giggled
He calmed down
"Good boy" I patted mamas belly.
"I love you!" I kissed her belly
He kicked once and I stood back up
"Let's go home" we said and i drove home
An hour and a half later. Everyone was sleep when I pulled into the garage
I honked my horn loudly.
"WAKE UP!!!!! WERE HOME!!!!!" I yelled. They all jumped and screamed and I giggled
"We're home!" I said
"Get me out of this car!" Mama said
I giggled and helped her out
"Thanks baby." She kissed my cheek and I smiled
I helped her and grandma get inside and daddy brought all he bags in
I flopped on the couch, Daddy carried me into my room. It was nice to be home.
