It's All Just Too Much

 

I was laying in bed awake all night thinking about some of the things mama said to grandma about me It still hurt so badly. I grabbed my phone to check the time and it said 1:30 am I was wide awake. I got up and walked downstairs to the kitchen to fix a sandwich.To my surprise Mama was doing the same thing.

"Hey baby." She said taking a bite of her pb'n'j.

"hey." I replied avoiding eye contact.

"Couldn't sleep?" She asked.

"Yea." I replied quietly

"You hungry, I can make you a sandwich if you want?" She asked

"I got it." I said reaching for the ham to make a ham sandwich.

"Why are you up?" She asked with a mouth full of food.

"I couldn't sleep. You literally just asked me that question." I said

"Sorry baby brain" she giggled

I grinned and began making my sandwich.

"Has my baby brother tried to come out again?" I asked changing the subject

"Almost everyday you were away." He replied

"He missed me too much I guess." I said and we both laughed

"Guess so." She agreed

"I missed him too. He has grown since last week" I stated

"I know." She laughed looking down

"Are you happy that it's a boy?" I asked

"Of course! clever way of telling us though." She said

"I wanted wait a little longer, but thanks" I said and she smiled with a sigh

"I know you don't fully forgive me for what I did." She told me

"That's the reason I'm still awake." I said

" I figured." She replied

"Why did you say what you said to grandma?" I asked

" I was angry." She answered

"Yeah I know, why? You would never even think something like that, but for you say it. I don't get it." I stated

"I don't know what happened or even why I acted that way toward you." She said. She could tell that i was hurt and angry

"One question, why did you get so angry. I said that it was baby, that is what he is. Would rather me say the goat boy?" I asked

"I don't know. I guess it was the hormones ." She shrugged holding back tears

"I don't know why I said it and if I knew you were listening I wouldn't have." She said

"No one would say something like that in front of their kid, but you said it with even thinking." I stated

"I didn't know you were listening." She defended

"But you said it anyway" I said

"I'm sorry." She said

"Did you like the speech?" I asked her.

"I didn't hear it" she answered

"I read to you and daddy on the way to the airport." I said

"Oh." She said quietly

"Did you put headphones in while I was reading it!?" I aske s

"No."she replied
