Five Years Later

Dabi woke to the familiar tapping on his nose. Before he could even open his eyes a tiny finger was shoved into his mouth. "It hurts." Shinji whined, sitting on Dabi's chest.

Dabi pulled Shinji's finger out of his mouth, "Dove, did you touch your wings again?"

Shinji nodded his head quickly, with tears forming in the corner of his eyes, "I'm sorry Daddy."

"Its ok, Dove," Dabi said picking up Shinji and carrying him to the bathroom,"Lets get you all better, ok?"

"Okay Daddy," Shinji said as Dabi set him down on the bathroom counter. Dabi grabbed the burn cream out of the cabinet and a bandaid that said "Pro Hero Hawks" on it.

Once the tiny burn on Shinji's finger was wrapped in a bandaid, Dabi gently pressed his lips to the burn. "All better?" Dabi asked.

"Daddy, you fixed it!" Shinji exclaimed before jumping into Dabi's arms. Dabi had to quickly move his face backwards to avoid getting smacked in the face with Shinji's wings that were covered in blue flames.

"Come on," Dabi said while carrying Shinji out to the living room, "today's a big day for you, we need to get you ready."

"Why is today a big day?" Shinji asked.

"Its your first day of school," Dabi said, "aren't you excited?"

"Will you go to school with me?"

Dabi let out a low chuckle as he set Shinji down in a chair at the table, "No, Dove, I won't be going to school with you."

Shinji scowled at Dabi, "then I don't want to go to school."

"Dove, you have to go to school," Dabi said.

Shinji turned away from Dabi crossing his arms over his chest and pouting. Dabi shook his head slightly before leaning down and giving Shinji a kiss on the forehead, "you'll be just fine, now what do you want for breakfast?"

"Pamcakes!" Shinji yelled before remembering that he was still mad at his father and returning to his pout.

Dabi walked to the kitchen and began to make the pancakes, Shinji slowly forgot why he was pouting and after pouting for long enough that he had completely forgot, he got up from the table and walked into the kitchen to grab onto Dabi's leg.

"Everything ok there, Dove?" Dabi asked.

"Daddy Dabi?" Shinji looked up still clinging tight to Dabi's leg, "When is Daddy Hawks coming home? He's been gone for years."

"Oh Dove," Dabi said still not looking up from the pancakes, "he'll be home today, I promise. Come on, let's go eat ok?"

"Ok Daddy!" Shinji said, running back to the table, while Dabi carried the pancakes and put them in front of Shinji, "Daddy aren't you gonna eat pamcakes?"

"I will, in just a minute ok?" Dabi said, "I'm gonna wait for your father."

"But Daddy you could be waiting years," Shinji whined and stood up on the chair with a piece of pancakes still on his fork and began trying to feed it to Dabi.
