I Don't Forgive You

26. Heartbeat

Shinji shuffled down the hall in the middle of the night, careful not to wake his parents as he slid the door open to the nursery. Looking down the hallway to make sure that no one could see him, he carefully shut the door behind him. He grabbed the rocking chair that his dads would use to rock the babies to sleep, pulling at it with all his might as he dragged it along the floor. 

Once the chair was next to the crib where his baby sisters slept, he climbed up onto the chair trying to catch his balance as the chair swayed back and forth. He leaned over the edge of the crib, careful to avoid waking Tohru. He didn't like Tohru, she was loud and annoying. His hands wrapped around Katara, pulling her close to his chest as he hovered over the edge of the crib, his toes not quite reaching the chair.

Leaning back to rest his feet back on the chair, the chair rocked backward knocking Shinji toward the floor. Panic rushed through him, as he bat his small wings as much as he could, breaking his fall. He immediately focused his attention on the baby in his arms, making sure that she wasn't hurt in the fall. 

Katara looked up at Shinji with her bright golden eyes, wide awake but not making a sound. "Daddies never let us pway, we pway now." 

Shinji opened the door to the nursery, checking again to make sure that his dad's hadn't woken up to the ruckus. Once the coast was clear, he ran to his room, taking the baby with him. A single white feather flew down the hall, resting outside of Dabi and Hawks' bedroom door, so that Shinji would hear if they had woken up. 

He set Katara down on the floor, grabbing Mr Teddy and his other stuffies to all join them for their tea party. "We has to be quiet," Shinji put his finger to his lips, making sure that all the stuffed animals and his baby sister promised that they would stay quiet, so they wouldn't get caught playing so late at night.

They were all having a great time, eating their cake while drinking their tea, although the plastic cake that Shinji had bit into was no where near as delicious as the cake that Daddy Dabi made for him. And it hurt his teeth a lot less too. Katara did not eat the cake, Shinji kept trying to get her to eat it, but she kept squirming away from him when he tried to help her eat it. 

Giving up he flung himself back against the floor, throwing his arms out around him, "You no like cake do you?" Katara only stuck her tongue out in response, drool running down the side of her mouth. 

Shinji bolted up, hearing the faint cry of Tohru coming from the nursery. He scooped Katara up into his arms, knowing that soon his dads would wake up to take care of his whiney little sister. "We has to hide." 

Shinji listened to his parents, hearing one of them slowly crawling out of their bed. He ran down the hallway, down the stairs toward the kitchen. Looking around for a place to hide, he wrenched the cabinet door open, crawling inside and pulling it shut behind him, until he heard the latch click. Pulling Katara close to his chest, he slowly felt his eyes drift closed.

"I'll get her," Hawks muttered, pushing himself up from the bed as he heard the baby's cry. He knew it was only a matter of time before the cries doubled, as each of the girls woke each other up with their crying. 

Touya sat up in bed, stretching his arms up toward the ceiling, "I got her."

"Touya, you need your sleep," Keigo shuffled toward the door, his feet dragging along the ground as he walked, "I'm already up. You get some sleep."

Dabi let out a small chuckle, his eye lids half closed as his body fell heavy against the bed, "One of them wakes up, and we're all up. You mean to tell me that you're going to get both of the girls to bed?"

Hawks' shoulders fell, "Some help would be nice. I'm sorry baby."

Dabi waved his hand in dismissal, "Don't apologize. Let's go." Dabi pushed himself up from the bed, shuffling over to Hawks and leaning his head against him.
