The news that Himiko Toga had been captured spread fast across Japan, and the news that she had escaped spread even faster. No one was quite sure how she had managed to escape Tartarus, but the news that she had, put the entire country on edge. What hadn't been released to the public was the disappearance of Detective Kamichi, which had been kept under wraps as the investigation continued.
Dabi and Hawks had been hauled in for questioning, multiple times in the week since their arrest to prove their innocence in the involvement of both events. Both heroes and police alike could find no evidence to lead to them, and eventually they moved onto other possibilities.
Dabi sat outside the door to Shinji's room, as he had done every night for the past week. His eyelids grew heavy as he fought the exhaustion from his sleepless nights. "Are you coming to bed baby?" Hawks stood above Dabi in the hall, looking down at his exhausted husband.
"He's not safe," Dabi mumbled, as his shoulders drooped lower against the wall.
"If someone comes for him, I'll hear it," Hawks knelt down in front of Dabi grabbing his hand to try and coax him up from where he sat. "You won't be able to protect him if you don't let yourself rest."
"I can't," Dabi mumbled before his eyes had fully shut, as his head swung down resting on his chest.
Hawks leaned down and picked him up carefully, trying not to wake him from his light sleep. He had managed to carry him to their bedroom door before Dabi's eyes flew open as Shinji ran out of his room frantic and ran straight into Hawks' legs.
"The bad men came back!" Shinji shouted, latching onto Hawks' leg.
"Oh buddy," Hawks whispered, "did you have another nightmare?"
"They took Daddies away!" Shinji cried, "I don't want you to go away."
"We're not going anywhere Dove," Dabi muttered half awake.
"How about you stay in Daddies' bed tonight?" Hawks asked Shinji, adjusting Dabi in his arms.
Shinji didn't say anything else before he ran into Dabi and Hawks' room, trying to climb onto the bed. He grabbed at the blankets trying to pull himself up, instead pulling the blanket towards him, and off onto the floor.
Giving up trying to climb onto the bed, Shinji sat on the blanket and rested his hands under his chin and pushed his lower lip out in a pout. Hawks chuckled as he set Dabi down in the bed, laying his head gently on his pillow.
"Come here buddy," Hawks whispered, scooping Shinji up into his arms and lifting him onto the bed, Shinji quickly curled up next to Dabi and rested his head on Dabi's chest. Hawks picked up the blanket off the floor and placed it over Shinji and Dabi, before he climbed under it himself.

Shinji bounced up and down on Dabi's stomach, waking him from his sleep with a groan. "Wake up Daddy Dabi!"
Dabi's eyes slowly opened as he looked up at Shinji. "I'm awake," he mumbled and moved himself over so that Shinji was no longer jumping on his stomach.
"You're so bouncey," Shinji giggled as he flopped down onto Dabi's stomach again.
"I'm not bouncey," Dabi sighed and sat up, pulling Shinji into his arms. "No more."
"But Daddy!" Shinji whined and kicked his feet across the bed, "Daddy Hawks left us." He crossed his arms across his chest and pushed his lower lip out in a pout.
"He has to work Dove," Dabi sighed, "and you," he squeezed Shinji a little tighter, "have to go to school."
"No!" Shinji yelled, jumping off the bed and running to the closet. "I don't wanna go!" Shinji slammed the closet door behind him and sat in front of it, so that Dabi couldn't open the door.
