Sing, Marian, Sing!
Through the noise of crowds of thousands.
Sing, Marian, Sing!
On the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.
"My country tis of thee,
Sweet land of liberty
Of thee I sing.
Land where my fathers died.
Land of the pilgrim's pride.
From every mountainside let freedom ring."
Your beautiful and melodious voice
Echoed over the crowds of people in the audience.
In front of thousands of people there.
The words of the song and the beautiful voice
That belongs solely to you
Has touched the lives of all Americans.
Sing, Marian, Sing!
"From the mountains to the prairies,
To the oceans white with foam..."
You sung with that voice that filled love
It blessed those who heard and now hear it
On our way, each and every day.
Sing, Marian, Sing!
In America, In England,
In Germany, In France,
and yes Italy, too.
Throughout Europe and on both sides
Of the Atlantic.
Sing, Marian, Sing!
When racism raised its ugly head
And tells you what you can and can't do,
You stood up straight and tall,
Opened your mouth,
And Marian, most of all, you would and could always
Stand in your position and simply SING.
Marian Anderson was an example
To her posterity of how a singer
Is to carry themselves and even how to act.
With dignity, decorum, pride, and as a matter of fact,
Also, with grace and beauty.
Although Marian has moved on,
We are all her legacy.
We must sing and use our voice
In the good times and the bad,
Whether we are right or wrong.
Sing, People, Sing!
