Little Black Child Don't Ya Know?
That you came a tradition of greatness.
Don't Ya Know?
That your ancestors were strong
And their faith never wavered.
Don't Ya know?
That you are beautiful, smart, and important
That you should never allow anyone to
Misuse you, abuse you, break your heart, or mistreat you.
Little Black Girl Don't Ya Know?
Your skin is divine
Whether light or dark
This should give you peace of mind.
You are a descendant of kings and queens
A rich heritage, a peculiar people, creators of things that were previously unseen.
Don't Ya know you were meant to shine
Hear the words of your ancestors singing
"This Little Light of Mine. I'm gonna let it shine."
