Jim Crow, a name of disgrace
A time when justice was misplaced.
A system based on skin-tone hue
Where liberties were not for few.
Jim Crow was a crooked law,
Designed to keep black folks in awe.
A system built on racial hate,
That restricted their every state.
Segregated spaces all around
No freedom and no common ground
White supremacy was the game,
And black folks were not treated the same.
Racism rampant, full of hate
Segregated by law and fate.
Discrimination in every form
Lynching, violence, the norm.
Denied the right to vote and learn,
Subjugated at every turn.
A life so full of misery
And yet, they fought for liberty.
The heroes of civil rights movement
Championed through years of torment.
With boycotts, marches, and sit-ins
The long road to freedom begins.
But despite the oppression and pain,
Black folks did not let their spirits wane.
They fought back with all their might,
And demanded their basic rights.
With bravery and a unified voice,
They challenged Jim Crow's every choice.
Through marches, boycotts, and protests too,
They helped end Jim Crow's cruel debut.
Jim Crow, a stain on our past
A lesson we must hold steadfast.
For the hate that once ruled the land
Can never, ever take command.
