Background: everyone in the story is a sophomore in high school. Nini has not and will not date ej in this.

I got on the bus like I normally do in the morning and sat down in my seat. It's my sophomore year, and I don't have my license yet, so I have to take the bus every morning. It's really annoying, but I'm getting my license in a few months so I guess I can wait. I got on my phone and started scrolling through TikTok. I looked up when I heard a voice, "hey y/n, can I sit here?"

"Oh, hi ej. Sure." I smiled gently and scooted over. I hardly know ej, but we're in the same language arts class. I know of him, but I don't know him, if you know what I mean. He probably is the same way for me. He's also a sophomore, and pretty popular. I think he's in theatre and wears a letterman jacket constantly. Like everyday.

I tried to hide my smile as I sat down in the seat with y/n. I have the biggest crush on her, and I have since freshman year. There were plenty of other seats, but I saw y/n and I took my chances. Just act cool, Caswell. I got this.

"So um-you live in this neighborhood?" Oh geez, why did I ask that. Of course she lives in this neighborhood; she just got on the bus. I'm a dummy.

She giggled a little, "yeah. I guess you're new here? Like-I've seen you at school but never in Union Hills before." Union Hills is the neighborhood we both live in. *pretend that's a neighborhood in Salt Lake City lol*

"Yeah, my dad and I just moved here. We lived like 10 minutes away before and he thought we should get a different house for some reason so um-here we are."

"Oh, nice. Yeah I love this neighborhood. There's a ton of kids from school that live here. I think you'll like it." She smiled lightly.

I smiled back, "it's nice to uh-finally meet you." I said, shaking her hand.

"Nice to meet you too." She laughed a little.

"So, what classes do you take?" I said this like I didn't figure out her entire schedule already.

"The only electives I take are culinary arts and accounting. Everything else is just the basic classes."

"Honors though." I said, instantly regretting it. She probably thinks I'm a stalker now.

"Uh, yeah. Honors chemistry, honors algebra 2, honors language arts, plus my two electives, and drivers ed." She said.

"Nice." I said, simply.

"What classes do you take?" She genuinely asked.

"Same honors classes, I think we're in the same language arts class." I said, trying to hide the fact that I literally stare at her in that class everyday. She's so beautiful and smart. She sits and talks to her two best friends, Nini (who she calls Neen) and Melissa (who she calls Liss) before class starts. During class, she pays attention and answers questions occasionally. I sometimes see her doodling in her notebook. Her smile is radiant and she's so pretty. Like the prettiest girl I've ever seen. My friends know I like her, but I've never actually talked to her before this. "Uh, I take theatre as well, and I'm also in Spanish and drivers ed."

She smiled lightly, "nice. Theatre seems fun. The productions are always amazing."

"Oh? You go to see them?"

"Every year." She smiled, "they're amazing. I don't have that talent, so seeing people that do is cool."

"But, you have tons of other talents." I smiled.

She giggled softly, and rolled her eyes, "I guess."

"You do." I genuinely said. She really does. She's smart, hardworking, and I assume a great cook since she's taking culinary arts.

She smiled gently, "thank you, ej. You actually don't know how much that means."

I smiled back at her as we arrived at school. I got out into the aisle and let her out first. She giggled a little and whispered, "such a gentleman."

I gushed inside as she said this and walked into the school with her. We both walked to our language arts class together and she waved to me as I went to sit down with my friends and she went to sit with hers.

One of my best friends, Harvey, gasped and started making kissing noises when he saw me walk in with her. I slapped him in the arm. Y/n turned her head to look at me again and smiled lightly. I don't think she knew I saw her do this, but I saw her from the corner of my eye.

"EJ Caswell!" Neen and Liss screeched quietly. I shushed her.

"Shut up, guys. We just met today. He's really-nice, though."

"And hot, dang girly. I've seen the way he looks at you. He's totally in love."

I rolled my eyes, "sure, sure." I turned my head to look over at ej. He's cute. He was talking with Harvey. I smiled at him, and went back to my conversation with my best friends.
