In the middle of nowhere, I stood all alone until the darkness faded and concealed the place where I was. It was dark, the moon was shining bright in the sky, and the sound of cicadas was filling the silence of the night. Barefoot on the ground, I walked upon to somewhere, just letting my feet lead me somewhere until, from a near distance, I reached out to someone glowing, facing back at me.
My hands were about to touch him, but it was too late to realize the water coming upon us—not just water but a few meter high flood that quickly carried my body away from the one I was about to touch. I was barely breathing, trying to keep myself on the surface of the flood. I had no idea where it would take me, but as soon as I looked back, I screamed in fear for what I'd seen. I tried to swim back, fighting the waves that pushed me to the dark creatures waiting for me to draw near.
There, voices of insults, laughter, and anger echoed in my mind, and for a moment I thought my ears would bleed.
As soon as I opened my eyes once more, the familiar ceiling was the first thing I saw. Heavily breathing, I got myself off the bed. It was just a bad dream. Another bad dream.
Patrick was sleeping peacefully beside me, hoping I didn't wake him up after I jolted awake.
Something grabbed my attention and I looked back at the balcony. The curtains were swaying with the wind coming in. I walked upon the door and instantly felt the cold wind kissing my cheeks. I stepped onto the balcony, overlooking the dark grounds of the mansion premises. I am quite amazed at how the skies are so close. Billions of stars concealed themselves in the dark night sky in conjunction with the pretty bright full moon. I even caught a shooting star.
I just sat on the floor, looking up and trying to make my own constellations. There, I just smiled at the beautiful scene above.
A few minutes later, I realized I couldn't keep up all night and decided to go back inside. As soon as I got up from the floor, a figure caught my attention. For a moment, I thought I was just tripping, but I saw it walking into the woods, just beside the mansion.
The cold wind blew once again, but it was heading to the woods this time.
I need to figure it out. Baka magnanakaw pa 'yon na nakapasok dito.
I walked across the bedroom silently and went out. I headed downstairs and used the backdoor Patrick showed me this afternoon. As soon as I stepped out of the mansion, I quickly went to where I saw someone walking into the woods. I headed in the same direction. It felt strange when the wind seemed to follow where I was heading.
I could no longer feel the walkway I was on, only grass. I had my phone with me, and I turned my flashlight on. The light from the post won't reach me anymore, either. There I realized I was walking far away from the mansion now.
Then, the sound of cicadas started to fill the silence in the woods. I could hear the sound of leaves I was stepping on, too.
I'd gone too far until I reached the firewalls. I saw no one walking around. Maybe I was just tripping.
But, the moment I heard some leaves being stepped on, I quickly hid behind a tree and turned off my light. He's getting nearer, as his footsteps were becoming louder, and I thought he was heading to where I was.
I simply grabbed the fallen twig on the ground and held it tight, and as soon as I felt someone was beside me, I quickly swung it to him.
"Ah, the hell!" He managed to dodge my twig, but the moment I recognized him, I heaved a sigh. It was Patrick, still in his pajamas. "What do you think you are doing here in the middle of the woods, Flynn?"
"I saw someone walking into here."
"Really?"
"I swear."
We went back to his mansion and headed to the security room. After reviewing all the CCTV footage, no one was caught walking into the woods at exactly the time I saw it. It's weird.
"Flynn, you better need some sleep. Kung ano-ano na nakikita mo dahil sa pagod mo," he suggested.
Bumalik na lang kami sa kwarto at natulog ulit. To be honest, I couldn't sleep when I was so sure of what I'd seen. This may be a paranormal sort of thing or not, but I knew what I saw was real.
The next day, the bright morning sun greeted us outside. I went around the woods once more, hoping I could find some things that would help me figure out what I saw last night.
Birds were chirping and flying around the trees as I roamed the place. I saw some rabbits hopping and jumping into the bushes. So, there's wildlife going on here.
From afar, my name was called, and I instantly saw him waving at me to come over to where he was. There, I saw him riding a golf buggy, in the driver's seat. "Sakay."
I went to the passenger's seat and he started driving away from the mansion. We were driving down a street in the middle of the woods. I couldn't believe how wide the place was. You could already build a small community up here, that's how wide it was.
And to my surprise, there is actually a big flower garden, and we were heading to it. The moment we reached it, I was taken aback by how beautiful the place was in the distance. We passed various kinds of flowers, with butterflies flying over them. So pretty to watch.
His buggy stopped in front of a small hut, which I missed while we were heading here.
Patrick stepped out of the car and took some of the things he had brought with us. He spread a picnic blanket on the green grass while I carried the baskets of food and snacks. I was unprepared for this, even though he had already told us earlier that we'd be going somewhere to eat our breakfast.
"You really prepared all of this."
"Yeah, just a week before we went here," he said, and took my hand. "Do you like it?"
"Well, I don't have any reason to not like it."
We spend our time together alone in the garden. After having our first outdoor breakfast, we roamed the garden, and he actually brought a film camera with him.
"Flynn, can you take a picture of me?" he asked, and gave me the film cam.
"Oh, so you just brought this para gawin mo 'kong photographer mo."
"Not really. Just take a picture once, and done!"
I rolled my eyes and tried to find an angle to take a picture of him. "Okay, one, two, three."
The film cam flashed after capturing. I gave it to him, hoping he'd like the way I take a picture, knowing I am a bad photographer. Taking pictures isn't really my thing.
He roamed around once more, and he even tried to pick some flowers for me. "Don't, Patrick. Ang ganda ng garden, 'wag mo nang sirain."
"Sobrang dami pa ng flowers dito. I just wanted to pick some for you."
"I rather let them grow freely here than pick them for me and eventually wither and die."
"Ang hirap mo palang mahalin."
"Buti alam mo."
I was peacefully walking by the flowers when he suddenly lifted me up from the ground, and carried me like a bride after a wedding.
"What are you doin'—"
"I wanna walk around with you like this."
"Ibaba mo 'ko!"
"For one condition."
"Pakasal tayo bukas.
"You gotta be kidding."
"I'm damn serious, Rainer Flynn."
I had no choice, but to let him carry me around like a newborn baby. Buti na lang, walang ibang tao. Nakakahiya.
