**just pretend that robin already knew about steve and nancy**

"have you.. ever been in love?" robin asked steve.

"yep. y/n l/n." steve said.

"how long ago?"

"last year." steve said sadly.

"what happened?"

"she.." he croaked, his eyes watering.

"we were.. at hawkins lab." he let out a small sob.

"y/n heard this.. growling, so she ran inside. i tried to stop her but.." his voice trailed off and he stared at the wall, tears falling out of his eyes.

"i.. i heard her scream." he shuddered.

"and when everyone drove out, she wasn't there. hopper.. he gave me the look and i knew what happened." he cried into his hands.

robin gave steve an apologetic look.

"i'm sorry steve." she said.

"it's not your fault." steve laughed dryly.

"what was she like?"

"she.. was.. amazing. a heart of gold, she cared for everyone and everything. after nancy and i broke it off, she comforted me, and i didn't mean to, but i fell in love with her." steve explained.

"she was creative, positive, she.. she was also really weird." he smiled at the thought of the girl he once loved.

"loving, beautiful, funny. she was really funny. free-willed, open minded, she would say what she felt. and she was.."

"she was what?" robin asked.

"fearless." he smiled.

"well, she sounds amazing. i bet she felt lucky."

"no, no. i was the lucky one. i knew the most.. beautiful girl in hawkins. and she.. she loved me. not tommy h or billy, but me." his smile got bigger and bigger at the thought.

"do you miss her?" robin asked.

"so, so much." he responded.

the two smiled as they kept talking about their hopeless love lives, laughing and telling the stories that could be cute, weird and funny.
