everyone's eyes pointed at jason while he began to talk on the microphone. y/n was smiling softly at him, who was her boyfriend, and he didn't seem to be looking at her.

"and of course, of course, i have to give a special shout-out to the best and prettiest fans of all time, the tiger cheer squad!" he said. y/n was confused at that remark, and mike and dustin exchanged looks. she was friends with the boys, and she was in hellfire. she was very close friends with eddie, who she had known for years.

"chrissy.."

"chrissy, i love you, babe." jason said, and y/n felt her heart drop, and it was like the color had been drained from her face. eruptions of 'awes' escaped through the crowds as y/n wiped the tear that had just fallen from her eye with get sleeve.

jason made eye contact with her and he immediately realized what he had done. once the pep rally was over, she walked quickly out of the gym, with jason quickly following behind her.

"y/n! wait!" he called.

"no, leave me alone!" she said, a few more tears falling.

"come on, please. y/n!" he grabbed her wrist and she turned to face him. his face had looked sad and sympathetic when he saw that she had mascara and tears stained onto her face.

"what? you cheated on me."

"it's.. not my fault."

"wh.. wha.. 'not your fault'? what kind of shit is that? you chose to date chrissy." y/n said.

"y/n--"

"fuck you, jason." she swore, walking away.

"we're talking about this later!" he yelledp, recieving looks of confusion from other students in the hall. y/n extended her arm behind her, flipping him off while she got farther and farther away from the boy.

there was yelling coming from the y/n and jason's shared apartment.

"you lied to me!" y/n sobbed.

"it's not my fault." jason defended.

"stop lying, you asshole!"

"it's not mine, but it's--"

"how long?!" she screamed.

"what?!"

"how long were you cheating on me?!"

"4.. months." he admitted, and it took her by surprise.

"wow." she said, a single tear falling from her eye, which she quickly wiped off with the sleeve of her jacket.

"god, i can't believe you!" she yelled.

"what?!"

"you can't just love me and then go and love chrissy, too!"

"it's not like i ever loved you!" jason yelled, and he didn't seem guilty about it.

"get out." y/n said, looking at the ground with tears falling.

"what?" jason asked.

"get out!" she screamed, taking off the promise ring jason had given her for their one year anniversary and throwing it on the ground.

"fine. you're nothing without me!"

"get the fuck out!" she pushed him.

"fuck you! i'n glad i dated chrissy!" he yelled, resulting in y/n slamming the door in his face. she slid down the closed door and let out a few sobs.

Eddie immediately noticed something was wrong with y/n when she kept quiet at the lunch table. it made him slightly frown that she wasn't being her normal positive and ecstatic self.

"hey, y/n, are you okay? you seem.. off." he asked quietly to the girl who was sitting silently with her head resting on her hand.

"huh? oh, yeah, yeah. i'm, uh, i'm fine." she lied.

"you sure?"

"mhm. i'm gonna.. go to the bathroom." she said, getting up and walking to the bathroom. jason saw her, and he went quickly after her.

"y/n?" he called, making her jump. she turned around and her heart dropped when she saw him.

"what?"

"can we.. talk?"

"what's there to talk about?" she asked.

"this.. this relationship.. us."

"jason, it shouldn't be this difficult." she said, her eyes filling with tears.

"you.. you dated me for 2 years then you cheated on me with chrissy for four months! then, you say you never loved me. it's just.. i'm.."

"you're what?"

"i'm done!" she sobbed.

"wh.. 'done'? what do you mean?"

"i'm breaking up with you." she cried, shoving past him, but he grabbed her wrist and pulled her into a kiss. she pulled away and wiped her eyes.

"we're done." y/n repeated, walking back into the lunch room. he stood there hopelessly as a few tears fell from his eyes. she stopped inside the doorway of the lunch room, and she sighed. she fixed smiled fakely and walked back to her table.

"hey." dustin said.

"hm?" y/n asked.

"eddie wants to hang out tonight, you in? the rest of us are going."

"sure, where?"

"arcade."

"okay."

Time Skip

at the arcade, y/n wasn't doing much, mostly just hanging out on the side. eddie noticed it, and he pulled her outside.

"okay, y/n. are you okay?" he asked, crossing his arms.

"yes, eddie, i'm fine." y/n lied.

"y/n--" he began, and stopped himself with a sigh.

"i know something is up. okay, we both know you're lying." eddie told her.

"i'm fine." she repeated.

"y/n, tell me what's wrong." he said, looking into her eyes, which had just began to gloss over. she looked away quickly and she covered her face with her hands, which were engulfed in her sleeves.

eddie looked at her in confusion before she began to let out muffled sobs. his heart dropped and he pulled her into a hug that she didn't return, she just left her hands pulled up to her neck as she cried into his chest.

they stayed like that outside of the arcade, eddie holding y/n while she let out her bottled up cries.
