AXEL'S POV
"She's doing great. It took her a little time to adjust to not having a job at first, but now she's enjoying having the chance to do more things. She's about to finish the culinary program she took. Balak niyang magtayo ng sarili niyang cafe'. Akala ko nga itutuloy niya ang bachelor's niya, but I guess she has a different path she wants to pursue now. She seems happy, so I support her."
Nothing could be heard but the rhythmic drumming sound. Silence shrouded the place as if there was no life around. I didn't receive a reply, and I didn't expect one.
"She's going to therapy and there's a lot of progress. Sometimes she still struggle, but it's okay. Her happiness outweighs her pain."
How far she had come could not be seen by how quickly she recovered when reminded of the past. It's not her finding it easier to talk about what happened before. It's not her not shutting down when we make love in the bed room.
It's her acknowledging that the presence of her pain does not mean that she's still a victim and that she's still not winning. It's her accepting that it's okay to be unhappy sometimes and trusting me enough to share her bad days with me.
"I don't just come here because of her, you know? I come here for me as well." I smiled when I thought of something. "She's pregnant. We're going to be parents."
