'Sometimes I wish I could go back in time and erase everything that was sad, only wouldn't the cheerfulness disappear too?'

Nicholas Sparks

-----

Maya had been in a coma for over a week and a half. On the Glasgow scale she was at an high level.

As the days passed, Carina began to lose hope. It was true that Maya's brain activity was still present, her vitals were good, but why wasn't she waking up?

Carina had not stopped working and it was better not. It was the only time she didn't think about her fiancée, about her life that seemed to be ruined.

- "Doctor DeLuca?" Carina was busy with a chart on the newborn floor.

- "Yes?" She said, turning around.

- "Hello, I'm Lieutenant Decker, I was told I should speak to you, I'm in charge of Captain Bishop's case."

- "who has you..."

- "his colleagues at station 19. They told me that you were his fiancée"

-"Yes" said the Italian with a twinge of sadness

- "Okay, have you ever seen Mr. Bishop, your girlfriend's father?"

- "I saw him once. I came to see her at the station and I saw her with him in the lobby of the station, so I didn't join them...she never told him she was queer."

- "okay, so you might recognize it?"

- "yes of course, he doesn't have a face I could forget. But... Why?"

- "Okay, let me explain, we managed to retrieve the video surveillance cameras from the park entrance. Just before four o'clock, we see two men enter. One at the northwest entrance and one at the east entrance. We believe the one who entered the east entrance is Lane Bishop, but we need someone to identify him. We see him get into a car in the name of Mrs. Katherine Bishop. Obviously he didn't know about the cameras. We also watched hours and hours of video surveillance of the park, he was following your fiancée for at least two weeks when she went jogging.

- "so why do you need an ID?"

-"This is the procedure. We also need to find the other man, who was much more clever. However, it is possible that one of the men we arrested is this other individual and maybe you will recognize him."

- "but I wasn't there"

- "Yes, but sometimes our brains register someone we pass by often. We think you were both being watched. One of them might tell you something."

- "okay"

-"and then on the videos, we see him going to the park every night for a week before the incident. And so did the other man. He must have noticed that Maya was going running in the middle of the night."

- "okay"

- "then we need to get Captain Bishop's testimony. Because there are no cameras in the park, we don't know who did what. For him to be charged with beating her with intent to kill, she has to testify."

- "but she's in a coma."

-"I know. I'm telling you the facts. For the moment we can keep him under the pretext that something happened, either by him, or for not assisting a person in danger... We will find out. But ideally she should wake up and tell us what happened that day.

- "okay"

- "can you come today at five-thirty to the police station?"

- "yes of course"
