Maya had been in a coma for six weeks. After an X-ray, Dr. Lincoln told Carina that he would be removing the external pins from her fiancée's leg.

- "but are you sure?"

-"Yes, Carina I'm sure, she hasn't moved, except by the physiotherapist or the nurses for her toilet. Her bones are consolidated. You know this process is very painful for the patient, every time I tighten the screws or whatever she has to feel it. And since we don't know her pain level, the painkillers are not overdosed. I assure you that she will feel better once the fixator is removed.

Atticus had left Maya's room and a few minutes later Travis and Vic had arrived.
