After her meeting with Chief Bailey and Dr. Montgomery, Carina had gone to her office where there were four positions, to do paperwork.

She then lay down on the couch in the open space and fell asleep. At 10:00 p.m., her pager had woken her up.

A message from Ashley, telling her that Maya had been asleep for twenty minutes now.
She had then combed her hair before going to her fiancée's room.

She had been questioned before returning by the nurse: "she made sure to do part of her toilet herself, to brush her teeth with her left arm, it was not a pleasure though. She was in a lot of pain tonight, so we pushed the painkillers a bit".

- "thank you"

-"I must warn you... She... She hits on every hospital staff member that walks by her room."

- "why I'm not surprised about that..." Carina smiled

- "but I brought the new guys up to speed... I told them that she was engaged and that even though they had no right to tell her, they had no interest in playing her game either."

- "thank you Ash"

-"It's normal, Dr. DeLuca, you've been watching this woman for two months. I have your back..."

- "what about you with the handler?"

- "Candy?"

- "yes"

-"I didn't think I would like her, I thought it was just a friendly crush... Then I found out that she was a lesbian... And I liked her... And I just found out, that she... She has a girlfriend"

- "shit..."

- "we are you and me, in the shit... It is the case to say it... Don't waste time with me... Go see her"

Carina placed her hand over Nurse Collins', who had her arms crossed, and shook her hand in sympathy.
Then she entered Maya's room. There was a different atmosphere in the room. The blonde had one leg, the valid one, bent over the mattress, her body turned a little. She had moved and it showed.

Carina had ventured to kiss her, perhaps a little too long, gently holding her chin to half-open her lip.

She had felt a slight pressure in return, but knew it was just Maya's body reacting. At this point, she was probably dreaming. She then sat down next to them and intertwined their fingers. Before she started to cry.

-"you forgot about me... I believe that this is the worst thing that could happen to me. To die is an unimaginable thing. But here you live, you breathe, you could meet me tomorrow and look me in the eyes and nothing. I am however happy, even glad, that you are finally awake. I prefer to live in a world where you are no longer mine, rather than in a world where you no longer exist."

The blonde had squeezed her hand and opened her eyes for half a second.

- "Shit" said the brunette. But she knew it was probably a reflex and she wouldn't remember it.

- "I remember the first time you pushed me away, when I thought it was over... Before I even started."

Carina had knocked on Maya's office door: "Hi" she had said as she entered

- "What are you doing here?"
