This wasn't how I planned Lily's birthday to turn out. An encounter with her assaulter, the confession and arrest of said assaulter. At least, the cake was good when we got back to Lily's place. She promised she was feeling okay, but I couldn't not worry about the effect the turn of events had on her. She didn't say a word about what was said back at laser tag between her and Rainer, and I am not certain I even want to know. All I care about is the fact that he's getting what he deserves.
He pleaded guilty to the charges, all that's left to do is wait for the judge to announce his sentence, which will never be enough, but it's better than nothing, I suppose.
"I call for wish number two," Lily tells me on the phone, looking at me through her window.
She sits down on the window seat like she hasn't done in a while, never interrupting what could look like a staring contest, but isn't.
"Anything for my love."
"Wear a matching outfit with me for the gala," she tells me, reminding me at the same time about the charity gala her college is hosting.
I chuckle, "Is that all? You really want to use one of your wishes to convince me to wear a suit that will match your dress?"
"Yes. We'll be so cute, me in my emerald dress, you in a suit with an emerald tie. I had to use a wish on this, because I had to convince you, since I already bought it for you," she confesses, smiling from the other side of the window.
"Well, I will. But just so you know, I would've done it if you had only asked nicely," I laugh.
She shrugs her shoulders. "I can't wait to see you all dressed up."
"And I can't wait to see you in a gown. It'll be a preview of our wedding."
"Thinking about marriage already?"
"I know you'll be my wife someday, I'm just waiting for the right time to propose."
God, I can't wait to see her in a white dress, walking down the aisle, me waiting at the other end, bawling my eyes out. I know I will cry. I just know it, I'm not ashamed to admit it. She'll make a beautiful bride, the most amazing wife, and a great mom.
"I can't wait," Lily comments on what I just told her, and it makes my heart melt.
She's everything I have ever wanted. Everything I will ever need.
She turns around, facing her door, speaking a few indistinct words, before coming back on the line. "I'll see you tomorrow, okay? Adam wants to talk to me."
Finally, I think to myself, it was about damn time that Adam tells his sister about his relationship with her best friend. "Yeah, no problem, good night, I love you."
"Love you, sleep well," the line goes blank as she hangs up, waving at me before leaving her room.
