"L-L-Linda?!"
"Kade?!"
We both stand shocked after I had placed the quest paper onto the counter and looked up at the clerk standing there.
"Y-your'e alive?!" Linda asks with her jaw dropped.
This is bad.
I turn my head around to see what kind of attention we are drawing. A lot. Like always when Linda is involved.
"Shhh!" I try to hush her. "Keep it down would you? I'm not trying to have the whole town spreading rumors about me!"
She clears her throat and composes herself.
"Of course. Would you mind stepping into the back and into my office for a moment?"
Sighing I nod my head in agreement.
I make sure to grab my chosen quest-paper.
Linda walks to the end of the counter, and folds up the desk in order to let me pass.
Thereafter she gestures to me to follow her through a door that leads to a room filled to the brim with bookshelves and scrolls. Continuing forward we enter a second door, which apparently is Linda's office.
The office is a bit of a mess, with piles of papers covering the dark-stained desk.
Illuminating the room is a bright mini-crystal-chandelier and to the right when we walk in, is a couch with an arm-chair facing it.
Once we both enter, the now-composed clerk shuts the door.
"Where the heck have you been?!" She grabs both my shoulders and shakes me back and forth.
There goes that composure and back to the normal Linda I know.
"Just give me a second!" I twist out of her grip. "I have just been recovering."
"Recovering?" A look of worry comes over her face.
I tell her "my story".
...
"If the unlikely chance would happen and you meet someone you know, I think that it would be best to tell a story about how you were gravely injured while conducting the quest." My master had told me this-morning. "Then, you can tell them that you were found by me, a wandering jewel merchant, who nursed you back to health."
"That's not that far a mark from the truth, with the exception of being a jewel merchant" I smirk at her. "Although, I suppose now that you sold some of your prized-possessions, you are a jewel merchant in a sense." She looks at me with a dead expression. She did not like being reminded of that.
"Iiim gonna go now.." I quickly gather my things and exit the door.
Time to pick up my first quest as the new me.
...
Master's story came in clutch. Linda seems to buy it all.
"Wow.. So you've been going from town to town buying and selling jewelry?! I never would have thought.."
"But at the moment I will be staying in Northerton through the winter. So for now, I'm back to adventuring!" I hand her the quest-sheet.
