I yawn, pulling my suitcase behind me as I walk slowly through the airport. I've finally arrived back in Japan after my embarrassing injury at a competition in America, forcing me to retire early.
At least I get to come home.
After collecting my belongings and going through security, I make it to the pick up area and my eyes scan eagerly for the familiar brown hair as I stand on my toes.
"Himiko~!" A shrill scream yells and my head whips around. I'm immediately engulfed into a tight hug by the girl and her perfume suffocates me as she smothers me in her arms practically sobbing.
"Yui!" I squeal, tightly hugging her back as we jump up and down like children despite now being in our early 20s.
"I missed you so much!" She cries as she refuses to let go of me and I giggle.
"I missed you too!" I say as she finally pulls away.
"Shibuki!" Another voice says and I gasp as I see Arai running over. He hugs me tightly which I return, ruffling my hair as he puts me down and we grin at each other. "It's so good to see you again!" He says as Yui clings onto my arm.
"We've been keeping up with all your wins! You were doing amazing!" Suzu giggles and I blush looking away.
"I always told you you'd become a famous track star and you never believed me!" Arai says punching my arm and I roll my eyes.
"Yeah well, thanks to the stupid injury I got years ago that's all over for me," I grumble, lightly hitting my leg with the bandage around it before wincing, considering I just had surgery done on it.
"Don't be upset! Now you get to come home!" Suzu says as she kisses my cheek and I giggle.
I walk with the two to their car and we all get it.
"So I assume I'm taking you to Tsukishima's?" Arai says and I rub my neck awkwardly.
"Actually... can you take me to my mum's house?" The two look at me confused. "I haven't actually told Tsukishima I'm coming back today... he's thinks I only come back next month..."
"Huh!?" The two exclaim at the same time. "Aw OMG are you going to surprise him!?" Suzu squeals.
"That was the plan yes," I say giggling and the two laugh with me.
"Well I can confidently say that jerk will be over the moon to see you," Arai says making me tilt my head. "He's been missing you like crazy," Suzu nods in agreement.
"Well we video chat each other every day! It's not like he hasn't seen or heard from me all this time?" I say and Arai rolls his eyes.
"The man is head over heels in love with you idiot, video chats are not enough," Arai chuckles and Suzu nods.
"He's been so quiet ever since you left, well more than he normally is. The only time he engages in the conversations is when it's about you!" Suzu says and I blush looking away.
"I had no idea..." I grumble making the two exchange glances as if to say they're as clueless as each other.
I mean I knew Tsukishima missed me, but I didn't know that much. I can't help but feel guilty for leaving, but he reassured me every time we spoke that he was doing ok without me? I can't wait to see him again... I mean it's been 5 years, what if things are awkward? The last time we saw each other was new years 3 years ago but I haven't been able to come back to visit since.
We pull up at my mum's house and I thank the two, arranging a time for us to catch up soon. I then knock on the door, excited to see my family again after all this time. The door opens and I smile widely as my mother's eyes widen upon seeing me.
