song: Last To Know by Three Days Grace
bg: your dad owns a recording studio under their house/apartment thing. two stories, first is studio second is house. anyways, you're 21 in college for music. spencer is 29 and the band is together. idk when the band originally started so I just make shit up.
I groaned and threw my notebook onto the floor. I was writing a song for class that had to be recorded, edited, and we would have to publish it after showing it to the class. I had the first verse chorus down and was trying to come up with the second verse.
The song had to be about something major in our lives. It could be a birthday, someone passing, moving away. Mine's about heartbreak. Not my own, my father's. It was also mine, but this is about a heartbreak of love.
When I was about ten, my mom walked out on us. My father went through a bad alcoholic phase and I stayed with my grandparents for a bit. When I was 15, my dad got sober and we rekindled. As I got older, I finally started to understand more about why my father was so upset. Of course I was as well, but I just thought my mom went on vacation and would be back.
My dad told me that my mom left for another man. My parents were high school sweethearts. They were planning on getting married soon before she left. The man she went to was actually my dad's best friend. I guess it wasn't just one stab in the back.
My dad hasn't looked for any other women. He tried once and he couldn't do it. The lady understood and I actually became pretty close to her. She was almost like another mom, but once she moved away, I lost another mother figure.
I could move out, but with a career in music, my dad's studio was amazing. And, to be honest, I didn't want to leave him alone. I'm all he has. I can't abandon him just yet.
I decided to get up and walk to the kitchen. My dad was out doing something so right now I was home alone. I looked throughout the kitchen for something to eat, but nothing caught my eye, so I just walked back into my room.
I picked up my notebook and read over the chorus again. Maybe if I went downstairs I'd get an idea. So I took myself downstairs, turned the lights on, and sat at the piano. I let my fingers trail over the keys before playing a few notes. I had no idea if I wanted the whole song to be piano yet, so that's great.
Thinking back through life and everything that happened, the words seemed to pop right into my head. I smiled and wrote them down,
Why didn't she tell me?
Where to go tonight?
She didn't say a word
She just walked awayIt was short but simple and lead back into the chorus. The bridge and the third verse were next. I tapped my pencil against my chin and then sat it down, looking around. Weirdly enough, I had stage fright. Once I thought the area was clear, I put my hands on the piano and began playing, singing after a few chords,
"She just walked away
Why didn't she tell me?
And where do I go tonight?
This isn't happening to me
This can't be happening to me
She didn't say a word
Just walked awayYou were the first to say
That we were not okay
You were the first to lie
When we were not alright
This was my first love
She was the first to go
And when she left me for you
I was the last to knowWhy didn't she tell me?
Where to go tonight?
She didn't say a word
She just walked awayYou were the first to say
That we were not okay
You were the first to lie
When we were not alright
This was my first love
She was the first to go
And when she left me for you
I was the last to know...""You wrote that yourself?" I heard from not too far away. I jumped and turned to where the sound came from. There stood a tall man with black hair. He had his arms crossed but a slight smirk was on his face.
"U- Uh.." I couldn't speak. I was too shocked and embarrassed. I grabbed my notebook and held it to my chest.
"It's good, and your voice is amazing," he spoke and walked over to me, sitting down on the bench. I moved over a bit. "Can I see it?" I slowly handed the man my notebook. I watched his eyes gaze over it and he put it back on the stand.
"How about...
I'll be the first to say
That now I'm okay
And for the first time
I've opened up my eyes
This was my worst love
You'll be the first to go
And when she leaves you for dead
You'll be the last to know." he sang beautifully. I watched him in amazement. He played the chords perfectly and completely took in the mood of the song. "Maybe you could add a little more to that part.""Like drums and guitar, and what you sang could be repeated," I said. The man looked at me and I smiled, continuing, "It'll be like the part of the song where the person moves on."
"Yeah.." he said with a smile as well. Our eyes locked before I blinked and looked away.
"I don't have those instruments though. Well, I don't know how to play them," I told him.
"I think I can help." The man smiled and almost on cue, four more men walked in. Three of them were carrying different varieties of guitars.
"Spencer you brought a girl?" one of them joked.
"No, but these are my bandmates. Joe is bass, Patrick is our drummer, Dan is lead guitar, and Ricky is rhythm guitar. And I'm Spencer, the lead singer," Spencer told me and smiled. "I told her that we would help with instrumentals for her song."
"Hey, I'm down," Patrick said with a smile.
"I am actually recording it for a class. We'll publish it after we show the class, so I'm definitely going to say I featured you guys. Um, what's the band name?" I questioned.
"Ice Nine Kills."
"Cool name. Oh, and mine's Y/n."
"Cool name as well," Joe pretended to tip a hat. I laughed softly.
"Are you guys here to record?" I asked.
"Yeah, but we're down to help you first," Spencer quickly said. I heard the other four snicker slightly. Spencer turned to, I'm assuming, give them a glare. "So, let's get recording!"

A week had past and I was about to publish my song to YouTube. Spencer helped with backups and honestly, it helped me a lot. We were only posting the audio of course. Once it was up, I was shocked to see it was already getting a good rep.
A message popped up and I clicked on it,
