"I promise I'll be back," Spencer told me. We were both ten. "Mom said we'll see each other again one day."

"I don't want you to leave!" I yelled and wrapped my arms around him in a tight hug. He hugged me back. Small tears left my eyes.

"Mom let me get something for you." Spencer slightly pushed me back and I wiped my eyes. He pulled out a pretty velvet box from his pocket and handed it to me. I sniffled and opened the box. Inside was a necklace with a lightning bug on it. "Since you let me have your lightning bugs."

My ryes widened and I smiled, jumping on him and hugging him again, "Thank you Spence! I will wear it every day until I find you!"

I fiddled with the necklace while writing notes for my AP statistics class. The teacher's words were going in one ear and out the other. It's been exactly seven years today since I've seen my best friend. Once he left, we never talked again. I don't know if it was because he was so far, or our little minds forgot, but —

"Y/n, can you tell me what percent the 'other' category would be?" my teacher asked. I sat up and looked at the board. Typing the numbers in the calculator, then subtracting, I found the answer.

"19 percent, Mr. Barnett."

"Correct. Alright.." Mr. Barnett trailed off again into the lesson. I let out a soft sigh and went back to jotting down the notes until we heard a knock on the door. Mr. Barnett walked to the door and opened it. There stood our principal.

"Oh, Mrs. Hatfield, hello," my teacher greeted. Mrs. Hatfield walked in with a boy behind her.

"Hi. This is Spencer, he just transferred!" she said aloud. The class started talking a bit before she said her goodbyes and left Spencer standing at the front of the class.

There was no way this was him. My heart sank as Mr. Barnett told him to sit next to me. Today was not the day. I watched the boy walk over and I hid my necklace in my hoodie. "You can copy Y/n's notes and I'll continue."

He started talking as Spencer sat next to me, "Hi. I'm Spencer. You already know that, um.."

I smiled softly, "Hi, I'm Y/n. We can talk after the notes finish." I pointed back to the screen where the powerpoint of today's lesson showed. I ripped a piece of paper out from my notebook and handed it to Spencer, along with one of my unused mechanical pencils.

Class went by before my eyes and suddenly the bell rang. "Um, can you show me where Mrs. Ashley's room is?" Spencer asked and showed me his schedule.

"Yeah, I'm actually going there right now."

The next day at school was picture day. I wore a pair of baby blue jeans with some holes in it, along with a dull-variety pink sweater. I left my necklace out and curled my hair. Since I could drive to school, I waited to do my makeup until I was in the parking lot.

As I walked into school, everyone was dressed nice. Though out of the corner of my eye, I saw a group of boys surrounding someone. Through them I could slightly see the words of a hoodie that I recognized as Spencer's.

I walked over, "Hey! Leave him alone!"

"Awh, what're you gonna do about it, princess?" one of the boys I know as Gavin said.

I gave him a glare before smirking and glancing over the boys', "I mean I could leak those dick pics you sent me. You are pretty small.. All the girls would love to know that."

Gavin's face went pale as the other two boys laughed at him. Gavin walked away and they followed, making sun of him. I walked closer to Spencer and smiled, "I seriously have his dick pics."

"Wow," Spencer chuckled. "Thanks for that." He smiled before looking down. At first I thought he was looking at my boobs, until he reach towards me and put his hand on my necklace. "That's very pretty.."

I smiled softly and watched his hand fiddle with it. "I got it a long time ago. It means a lot to me." Spencer moved his hand and focused his attention back on my eyes. It was like we were staring into each other's soul. I grasped my books when his hand made its way to my face.

His thumb softly stroked my cheek. I couldn't help but step closer. It felt like sparks. Until the bell rang. I pulled away, "Um.. I have to go. See you in stats!" I quickly made my way to my first class. My face was burning hot.

I calmed down until my math class. I walked in and sat next to Spencer, who was lost in thought. "Hey, you okay?" He snapped out of it and looked at me as I sat.

"Yeah, I'm good.. Just thinking." And that was the end of our conversation until the end of class.

"This is for homework if you aren't finished," Mr. Barnett told us when the bell was about to ring. I looked over at Spencer's desk and saw he was struggling.

"Do you want to come to my house after school? I'll help you," I offered. He looked up at me,

"Yes, yes I would. I am too stressed about this," he said. I laughed slightly and gathered my things.

"Meet me at the front doors after school." I smiled and helped him up. We walked to our next class.

Spencer and I hopped in my car and we went to my house. My parents weren't home, and no, we weren't going to do anything. I pulled into the garage, parked, and we both got out. Once to my room, I threw my bag on the floor and almost jumped onto my bed. "Come sit, we don't have to start right now."

Spencer sat his bag down and sat next to me. I pulled out a bin of snacks from under my bed and grabbed two waters from my mini-fridge. I handed him one and grabbed a bag of chips. "So, where did you come from?"

"Florida. I got accepted to a college here so I wanted to finish my senior year here," he told me and sipped on his water. I nodded and took a drink of mine as well.

We fell into silence until Spencer put his hand on my chin and turned me to look at him. "You're really pretty you know.."

I blushed, "Thank you.. I don't get many compliments from boys."

"I have no clue why," Spencer winked and it made me heat up even more. There was something there, but I couldn't put my finger on it. All I felt was safety and comfort with him next to me.

Suddenly, everything clicked. I looked down at my necklace and then at him. "What?" he questioned.

"It's me, Y/n. The same Y/n you gave this necklace to." I said in almost a whisper. Once his face lit up, we both engulfed in a hug.

"Oh my god! I didn't know I'd see you again!" he exclaimed and held me tight. I pulled away and smiled. I didn't think when I smashed my lips against his.

Shock didn't set in until he pulled back. "What was that for?" he asked. My eyes widened and I tried to push him away, but his arms stayed around me. This time, he leaned in and kissed me. It wasn't as rough, just two old friends kissing. I let out a long breath from my nose I didn't know I was holding.

It felt like hours went by when it was only a few minutes. When we pulled away, I sat my forehead against his, "Jeez, how did you get so good at kissing?"

He chuckled, "I could ask the same."

I smiled at him and couldn't help but kiss him again. It was sweet, it gave me butterflies. Our lips moved together as we started to make out. I pushed him against my headboard and straddled his thighs.

This usually wasn't me, but my body was craving it. That was until we heard my mom yell for me. Then I pulled away and we acted like we were doing homework. Small giggles escaped our lips while we sat there scribbling down nonsense.
